Lost 40GB of space on my HDD?!

I was using VirtualDubMod to re-process some of my AVI(DivX) files, and accidently went to full process mode instead of direct stream, which ended up spitting out a 40+GB file. Needless to say, my HDD partition only had about 40GB left, so the processing got interrupted due to lack of space. Now, I deleted the remnants of that huge file, but it doesn't seem to have changed my "free space". I've run scandisk and defrag, but I can't recover that 40GB back.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Urge...I purged the Norton bin for the third time, and it cleaned it out now....strange!

I have Norton AntiVirus only. It went to the "Norton Protected Bin" so I assumed it's been deleted.

no it hasn't, now the next question is how to delete it. 🙂 I've had trouble with it before.

I eventually reverted back to the old style recycle bin. When I want something gone by shift-delete, I want it gone.
