from what I was reading before, there are couple of revelations in this episode.

I missed it, what promted Claire to say that she knew how to get off? Did Charlie or Desmond say something?

She saw tagged birds flying south. This lead her to believe they can capture one of the birds and send them a message to wherever they were flying to.

No, she saw some migratory birds flying overhead and apparently saw a glint of something and figured it was a tag on one of their feet. Due to her overwhelming knowledge of nature due to watching nature shows, she knew that they were migratory and figured that a scientist might get their note if she attached it to a tag.

while watching this episode, the most important lost question has come up for me:

if the island can cure any of your flaws, ie: locke's crippled status, then why was ben dying from his illnes?
