What I don't get is in episode one ben told ethan that he could reach where the plane was in about an hour if he ran there. Wouldn't that mean that they would have to be on the same island?

or their village is on the other island with everyone else

There was a guy with an eyepatch shown in the monitors. Eko seems to get tossed around.

So far we know:

-The Others have access to outside information (TV, books, compiled data on Jack and others)
-The Others are smart and well-organized
-The Others do not have unlimited access or resources; they didn't have the tools needed to save Colleen's life; Ethan, Colleen, and that guy Ana Lucia killed are all dead
-The Other lady who works with Jack is a fertility doctor and is used to life, not death
-They think that they are the good guys, although they will become enemies if pushed; they have some reason not to give all the information to the island dwellers, yet they need them for something

We also know:

-Desmond can see the future
-They have something better than an X10 security system (crazy black smoke tornado that eats people)
-Captain Hook lives in a hatch
-There is a giant alien foot statue

Wait, wait, wait, it all makes sense to me now:

Fox Mulder is going to show up on the last episode and realize that all of his crazy conspiracy theories are true - ghosts, alients, evil governments, oh my!

y'know - that's been my fear that this show will end up trashing itself like the x-files did.. That was such a solid show until they drug the main story lines on too long...

I thought that the X-files had a real weak ending, with Mulder and Scully and the baby. It's so...anti-climatic. It also turned into a cop show when they put Dogget on. I mean, he's a good actor, but it just wasn't X-files anymore.

Anywho, what is the big secret with Lost? The Others are willing to lose their own (getting killed)...and they seem to live as kind of a big family...and yet they feel the secret is big enough that they can't tell the island dwellers. I am so clueless :Q

so there's a chunnel between the two islands?

I hope the writers aren't just making weird stuff happen for the sake of it. It's only interesting if it fits within the plot or drives it somewhere. Having said that, I've loved this season so far

Here's an idea. If you don't like the show, then don't watch it.

This isn't an X-Files thread BTW.

Here's an idea: read all of my posts before passing judgements. I like Lost and I also like X-files. We were talking about Lost, "y'know - that's been my fear that this show will end up trashing itself like the x-files did.. That was such a solid show until they drug the main story lines on too long... " and comparing it to X-files. Obviously this isn't an X-files thread. Get with the program man!! :D

Anyone have screencaps of the last scene with the strange figure on the tv?

I doubt that there's a tunnel connecting the two islands, too big of a project. I think something happened that moved them to some kind of secondary location. We know that in the beginning they had their own village on the big island. Then they took Jack and the other two to the small island which includes the underwater place.

Why do they need a con-man? I think they're in trouble, maybe with some other group of people... They need Jack for the surgery, and Kate to keep Sawyer in line.

Just so I am not brain farting, Desmonds little lightning pole was so Clarie's roof wouldn't get zapped, right?

Oh and this episode rocked. And I agree that the others "home" (in episode 1 this season) is on the Lost island, not the jail island. That's interesting to know that Dhamra had other hatches just not on the main island too...

No, I think his experiment actually caused the lightning storm. The sky seemed to be clear, then after he put up a lightning rod a storm just happens to come in? Perhaps the hatch had something to do with preventing this from happening? Maybe he knows a little more than we though?

Spoiler below

edit: the guy in the preview that looks like an "alien" is actually a guy with a large black eye patch. Found the screencap.

He has knowledge of the future so he knew the storm was coming.

Desmond saw the future that the lightning would strike Claire and/or the baby. That's why he asked her to move and that he would fix the roof. When she didn't, he came up with a plan to prevent her from being struck.

No, I think Desmond can see the future. He knew that lightning would strike Claire's hut. That's why he tried to get her to move down to the end of the beach, there was nothing actually wrong with her roof. He put the lightning rod there so it would hit the club instead of her hut.

I must have missed that, when did he see the future?

When Ben came to get Juliet for surgery, didn't he say "the sub came back."

Well the incident we're discussing is one time. Also on the last episode he knew about Locke's speech at the end before Locke gave it.

my theory: theres just the one island and some kind of strange phenomenom warps space. if this was the case

1) what ben said at the top of the rocks still wouldn't be a lie
2)remember when desmond said "this place is like a damn snowglobe" when he sailed for 2 weeks and always ended right back where he was.

Could be the same island just connected further down then what we can see. Though that would rule out how Ethan got to the plan so fast, unless theres a part where they are very close together or something.

That would be one big ass island. I think the simplier explanation, that the suburban community is on the main island, and this facility is on a smaller island, is more likely.

I swear I heard that as well. Also, in the last scene, when they are showing the view from the prison island there are some bubbles in the water near the bottom of the cliff, I swear I saw a periscope come out of them...probably just my imagination though.
