Give me a good old mp3 anyday... I can't hear that well anyway, no need in preserving those high frequencies. compression baby! COMPRESSION.

And don't get me started on people who run out of space on the HD cause they've got 1 hour of lossless music on the drives... let me introduce you to my friend, LAME

 We have 60GB mp3 players, 250GB HDs. What's 30MB/song anyway?

you are an idiot. get a good system that recreates an accurate dynamic range, flat frequency response, and then you will see the light.

as far as SACDs and DVD-As being garbage, i would say that's true.

Uh, I'd go as far as saying it the OTHER WAY AROUND. I can't pick CDDA and a LAME MP3 (at extreme) out in a blind test, but I can appreciate 24/96khz DVD-As, or surround mixed DVD-As. Flame elsewhere.

It matters to morons who tend to rip/download every song they encounter regardless whether or not they like it. I guess having a large music collection is a form of e-penisism and because people do this, they have implemented the "rating system" for song so that people can listen to the songs they thing are *actually* worth listening to but at the same time can "show off" their collection to people who come by... "oo ah, you're so cool because your collection is eleventy billionX the size of my collection, I SO envy you!"

What does lossless play at anyway? If a CD track compressed to about 128kbps takes up 1/10th the size as an Mp3 is it around 1mbps?

If someone has the ability what's the harm it letting them excercise it.

Maybe you don't care for it, or alas, can't appreciate due to a lack of the appropriate faculties, but denying its existance is just plain ignorant.

For the msot part it is variable bit rate since different parts of a file require sifferent amounts of bandwidth, thus saving sapce, but not allowing me to give yo ua definitive answer.

for the most part we are talking about 600-1000kbps + heavy CPU usage.

500+gb of mp3s... now imagine that in a lossless format. Not gonna happen.

Doesn't playing MP3's require more CPU usage?
