Loss of video signal during system crash

I just built this comp last week (see specs). Since then, the system has crashed a couple of times. What I'm trying to find out is what's causing it. It's not like a system hang where everything locks up and I just can't move anything......it like totally turns my monitor off to Power Save mode (like it is when the monitor is on but not the comp) and it crashes. I try turning the monitor off and back on, but to no avail. What could be causing a crash of this nature? Thanks in advance for the help.

What power supply is it on?
Did you overclock anything?
What are your room's temperatures and do you have any case fans?

Make sure all screen savers, power savings modes, etc. are shut off in xp screen saver settings.

I have an Antec TruePower 430w PSU. I only overclocked my 3.0 GHz P4 to 3015 MHz because it was saying 2998 MHz in System Information and that bothered me. That shouldn't be a problem though......I mean it's 15 MHz. I have two case fans, one intake and one exhaust. My CPU is 40 C idle and around 47 load. mobo tems hang in the low 40s.

The screen saver shouldn't be an issue because I was either typing or moving the mouse both times it has happened.

I just went throught the same problem you describe.

After much wasted time, it turned out that my power supply was flakey. Try another PSU just to see if the problem doesn't go away.

One other time the same "monitor shutting off" problem was caused by faulty capicators on the video card. Check to see if the caps near the VGA port on the vid card are "puffed up", swollen or leaking fluid...

Can't rule out poor connection at slot. Either not quite seated, contacts contaminated. Also check basics loose cable. Some monitors and video card combos can still get flakey, tho rarely w/ power saving mode. Good Luck. For PS I like thermaltake and fortron. 🙂
