Loss of Internet Connection When Using P2P Apps..

Would anyone know why an Internet connection (IE, email, AIM) be terminated when starting a file sharing app (kazaalite), then return after the app is closed?

This occurs on a Windows XP Pro box and it can not be figured out...thought it might be a port conflict, but does not appear to be. The other weird thing is that the file sharing app never actually connects (basically times out)...any ideas?

I'd like to know what kind of connectivity you have (Dial-up, Cable, DSL, etc.), whether or not you have a router and/or a firewall.

With Kazaa I'm not too sure, typically it only opens one TCP connection when "logging on". Other programs like LimeWire and Gnutella open multiple connections at once and can sometimes "flood" a connection to the point it drops (I've frozen a few Linksys routers using Sharezza (sp?)). I wouldn't say this is the case with Kazaa though.

It is on a school network...not sure of the full set-up.

It has worked before...now it doesn't.

Chances are you'd need to get with your schools IT department and see what the deal is.

It seems to be localized to only this box...all other compputers with the same configuration can connect and use p2p apps without losing internet connection...plus as I stated before, this worked previously.
