whoa, nice job

what was your workout regiment like?

no work out, that was just calorie cutting over a year long period. took a while, biggest thing was cutting out sodas (no joke). i tried to work out at the beginning but just couldn't keep up (lazy).

So what has been working for you?

put myself on a strict 700-1000 calorie/day diet (which is on the extreme end, but my doc is aware and I go in for blood work every couple months to make sure everything's alright)

Kudos to you on the results, but damn man... that is overly extreme. Unless you plan on maintaining that caloric intake for the rest of your life, you need to prepare for gaining weight back as soon and you start eating more again.

...He's burning more then he's taking in, which means when he's done losing weight he can eat more to stay at the same weight. Granted, it will probably be less then prior to attempting to lose weight but if he ate 700 calories a day forever he'd probably die eventually right?

Actually he may live longer...

Although he may suffer in other ways like osteoporosis.

Damn good job mate. I have to lose 15lbs this spring too. I also have to gain a lot of muscle that I've lost.

Been going to the gym after work since April now. Even without changing much of my horrible diet I'm still down 45-50 pounds and have been loading trash bags with clothes very recently since it's been getting hotter. Good for you and all else who dropped the fat!

700 calories a day? Wow. That bbddzz site doesn't work here, but I imagine you lost quite a bit of muscle doing it that way. Congrats for sure, but my goal is to lose weight slower at 2200-2500 a day with strong exercise so I retain most of my lean muscle and don't turn into the 'skinny fat guy'.

Agree 100%, although some people live and die by a number on a scale for some reason.

Very true, many people don't realize how many calories they take in thru "typical" drinks.

Congrats to all those here who are losing the baggage! (and that includes a little pat for me, lost ~ 15 lbs so far this year :))

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

taking supplements and getting blood work done on a regular basis to make sure my calcium, iron, and all those other important vitamin and mineral levels stay where my doctor wants them to be.

my iron was a little low, but my doc recommended eating red meat once in awhile in addition to my iron supplement, which seems to have leveled it out. once/week I just have a burger or two with lean ground beef, buffalo, or lamb.

For heart health, weight is NOT meaningless.

Perhaps, but I think his point was that starving yourself to become "healthy" is a bit strange way to go about it. Like I said, props to losing the weight and achieving the goal you set out for. I'm just questioning the specific goal is all.

Oh, OK, that I agree with.

someone turned me onto this crazy diet called burning more calories than you take in :p

lifestyle changes, really. I just kinda woke up one day and got serious. cut all the junk food out of my life (especially the liquid calories, soda's a killer), started walking places instead of driving, and put myself on a strict 700-1000 calorie/day diet (which is on the extreme end, but my doc is aware and I go in for blood work every couple months to make sure everything's alright)

Can I ask how fast you were losing weight? I'm kinda in the same boat as you, at one point I lost 40 pounds in 35 days. I'm just curious if you were worried about having excess skin if you were losing too fast.

I'm on track to lose 100 in 1 year, but I have to keep at it.

i need to start something back up again.

similar here. in less than 2 months last summer, i went from 270 to 225. i'd put myself on a diet of 1200-1500 calories/day. while i was on the diet, it was extremely easy to maintain that... i was simply never hungry, and would only eat when i was scheduled to eat. when i went off of the diet, i didn't gain a ton of weight back immediately, it was over the last 8 months or so. i'm up to 235 now (so gained back 10 of the 45 pounds), but i'm now hungry 100% of the time and am eating far more than i ever should (probably 2 or 3 times the amount i should).

i've just gotta find a way to get back on the diet, and i'll be all set or a while more. lol

Congrats, I was 275 junior year of HS and decided to get my ass into shape, dropped all the way down to 175 by college and now im straight up weight lift bulking back to 215-220 (currently at 205ish).

It's a great feeling! calorie deficit = win (generally speaking)

Grats.

I just broke 70 lbs lost from my all time high of 245 down now to 174.6 as of this morning. It took me a year and three months to hit my current weight, but I've also been weight lifting hard for the entire time. If you subtract the weight I've gained back in muscle I'll bet my fat loss in pounds would come close to yours. I've done it using the same simple formula you're using: calories in < calories out when cutting, calories in (mostly protein) > calories out when bulking.
