Pretty much the topic sums up the question. Ever since college, I've gained too much weight and was hoping to find the best way to lose that mid-section. Would it be better to lift weights in conjunction with fat loss or better to just focus on fat loss at first? Any help from you fitness gurus would be great.

Definitely lift weights, otherwise your body may very well decide to burn muscle along with the fat. Of course you can't approach this in a haphazard way - see the link in my sig or PM me for more info, I really don't feel like typing everything out yet again.

Cardio + Weight Lifting has let me lose weight and build muscle at the same time. I've lost 30 lbs and look far better than I have for quite some time (if not ever).

How much cardio do you usually do?

gotta do it all. In september of 2005 I was 290lbs. I started eating right, lifting weights (3 times a week) and doing cardio (at least 3 times a week). By August of 2006 I was 220lbs. At my lowest I was 196. Now Im right around 200lbs (put on some muscle mass). See my progress HERE.

It can be done. Good Luck.

A combination of weight lifting and cardio will crank up your metabolism which, in turn, will burn the most fat.

Your question seems to assume that the two things (fat loss & lifting weights) somehow conflict with each other. That's not the case. If you were asking about losing fat and gaining muscle simultaneously, then you'd have a problem.

Weight lifting on a diet is a muscle sparing activity, for that reason alone you should always be doing it. It's also a great all around calorie burner. The common notion is that simply carrying extra muscle boosts your metabolism, but that's not really very true. You have to use it. The activation of muscle tissue through regular strength training burns calories and "boosts the metabolism" over a period of several hours following the activity.

Building more muscle mass increases your metabolism, making it easier to lose weight. This is because muscle tissue consumes much more energy than fatty tissues, so more muscle = more calories burned each day.

Short answer: Both.

But it's so much more complicated.

Read John Berardi's articles at t-nation:

Legend, you are really all about that T-Nation? :p

I am still considering those Rev-Z pills.......

I like Berardi's articles on t-nation, and I do take a couple of their supplements. But part of their website is one large advertisement for Biotest's products, many of which I think are overpriced and exaggerated. The forum topics for each product has a bunch of people that seem to be powerfully suggestive and praise their products.

I prefer Optimum Nutrition's Whey over theirs, for example. Tribulus seems like a scam...many studies have shown that it doesn't influence testosterone levels.
