I just installed SP2 on my XP installation and I'm having trouble with the sound, Realtek AC97 onboard sound. Basically it won't work for things that use audio streams, games, or videos, though some other stuff will work (such as clicking on the start button or whatever). I checked dxdiag and it's testing fine for the Realtek AC97 Audio, but it's not working for DirectSound or the Microsoft Synthesizer.
Now here's the weird part, if I uninstall the drivers, and then reinstall them through the Add Hardware wizard everything will work perfectly, until I reboot or shut down the computer. And then it has the same problem. I've also tried uninstalling and then installing straight from the CD, which has me reboot after the installation, and it works fine. And once again, as soon as I turn the machine off or reboot, it's not working anymore. I'm at a loss for what's going wrong, but I'm thinking I should just go back to SP1 since it never gave me any trouble with this.
