Losing My CD-ROM

Just put together a system for a friend with a Gigabyte 7ZX1 and Athlon 900. I have been using the mobo/cpu/ram/cd for about 4 months with no problem. Then I put those items in a new case for my friend. Sometimes when I boot up, I get an error from the Phillips soundcard software saying the cd rom is not installed. Going to device manager, I see a red (!) by the cd-rom and by the Secondary IDE controller. I have reinstalled the 4 in 1's, even removed them and let Windows 98SE install it's drivers for the ide. That gave the same error. The drive is found and works fine about 4 out of 10 times. Enough rebooting and it will show up. Any ideas?

BTW, this problem appeared several days after the build. Worked fine until then.

suggest that you Click Start, then Run... , and type regedit
Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\IOS
if you should see a value named "NoIDE". Delete it, close regedit and reboot!
let us know how you get on! 🙂
