Lose connection

OK I have two computer one with XPhome and the other with Vista home Premium. Networked through a router, all is good till I want to share files. I map network drive, start to transfer files, all works fine for a while. Then both computers lose connection to the router and each other. The only way to restore connection is to reboot both computers. I can only do small files just can?t do mutable files or large ones.
