Lose 40 lbs, and then focus on doubling my strength.

I'm pretty good at sticking with something like this for a few months, but Ive decided to try to make it a lifestyle change. I tend to drop to 195 or so, then gain back the weight in 3-4 months, then lose it again in 1-2 months, and cycle, doesnt seem too healthy.

My new goal I want to focus on is to drop down to ~ 185 or so, and then focus on building muscle. I think doubling my current maxes is a good goal, and since I dont train much, it should be doable.

With just a healthy diet / protein supplements, but no muscle building supplements, and regular diet/exercise 5-7 days a week, any predictions on how long this would take with no lapses? (I realize taking a week off now and then actually helps, I mean general lapses where I just give up)

I'm guessing it will take 3 months to lose the weight, and then 18-24 months to double my strength (relative to a few major exercises like squats, bench, curls, etc)

Any advice/thoughts?

You can lose 3-5 pounds a week.

Dont eat anything .. drink a protein shake in the morning , some peants for snacks.. and a can of tuna for dinner with a slice of bread.

Pretty hard to predict..

What can you do now? If you squat 150, it shouldn't be too hard to double..if you're already at 300+, that's another story. :p

I would say my current maxes for squat and bench are around 150-170, years back i could do 225 bench

Yeah Im good at losing weight, Ive done 30lbs in 1.5 MONTHS before just by exercising and dieting. I figure 3 months and I should be down there, but gaining a lot of strength is another story

I assume either that 0 in the 30 is a typo or that 1.5 weeks is a typo.

That would require burning 8,000 callories a day.

You can lose 40lbs and double your strength at the same time. Get yourself a good workout regime, from www.t-mag.com, and add some cardio to the end of your work outs. Alternate lifting and cardio days, and some days do both. If you stuck to it hardcore, I give you less than 4 months.

4 months seems a bit extreme... i doubt it :) Especially since gaining muscle would make it impossible for me to lose 40 lbs :)
