Do you have a favorite "getaway" spot?

Bed and breakfast in Santa Barbara, seashore spot in San Diego, etc.? Where do you go when you just want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city?

The Coronado is a nice place.

Been there. Amazing place. It's like a tropical resort. I want to go again but it's $$$$$.

Just finished browsing through The Coronado's website... WOW. Any suggestions for a spot a little less pricey?

San Diego is pretty chill (read: boring haha).

If you're going to Coronado, you should go biking. It's very flat and you can go around the entire city in an hour. It's a very easy ride.

La Jolla Cove is a pretty relaxed place to sit and read a book. The weather right now is VERY nice.

I've heard there are hot springs somewhere within an hour or two's drive... naturally heated pools where people go to just soak and relax (not marked or developed anything, but if you know where they are apparently it's great). Does anyone have any idea where those are?

Go down to San Diego on March 8th - 12th. I might have a hotel party because I'm staying here.:D

edit: If money is no object, you should go here. AWESOME is an understatement for this place.

Palm Springs is nice. I'm going there in May for 4 days with my wife and son. Her Dad owns a vacation home there so we get the "family" rate. It's nice, right on a private golf course with private pool and jacuzzi (good for a late night dip). ;)

I've never been to L.A. or SoCal in general (well I did go to Disneyland once but I was too young to remember.) Is it really that crowded?? The way people describe it, I picture New Delhi or something similar in terms of population density and traffic. So many people seem to be 'retreating' from the city core and settling in the surrounding counties.

When I was going to high school in Mission Viejo in southern OC a decade ago, I used to skip school and head down to Laguna Beach, Dana Point, Oceanside, SD, Coronada, or TJ. Since them my parents moved up north to LA and I went to school at UCSD. Got a job down here in SD and been here ever since. LA's just too hectic. But the rest of the so cal counties are catching up. You get get anywhere without sitting in traffic for hours.

When I lived in L.A. I always went to Vegas for fun, but you're not exactly avoiding the hustle and bustle that's for sure.

south of LA:

downtown la jolla, warner hot springs, palm springs, palm desert

east of LA:

the quiet suburbia around hacienda, rowland, diamond bar, chino hills, city of industry, etc, ..., the ski resorts (bear mtn/snow summit, etc)...

north of LA:

ojai (very nice!..very quiet and ultimate relax place..probably more closer to where you live)

Palm Springs

it's not palm springs...

warner hot springs..NICE ultimate place to relax. No reception, the motels/hotels there have no TV's/phone, etc...
they have farms and houses w/ guest houses..and you have to call the owners up and rent the guest houses for a day or two... and NATURAL hot springs..it's really awesome, you can see steam coming up from the ground as you get closer to the area

here's the place i stayed @ last time i went. just grab a bunch of friends and bring a good book to read. It was fun and relaxing. The stars at night are breathtaking...i've lived in the city and city suburbs and the stars are pretty hard to see...

make sure to spot the space station which is always West around 6-8pm.

EDIT: added the resort i stayed at last time i visited, and more info

You should check out Santa Barbara or Palm Springs for a relaxing weekend.

I went to UCSB and loved this place: Sycamore Springs . Just an hour or so north of Santa Barbara, but really relaxing. Also Vegas is less than 4 hours away...
