    I don't know what happened.
I cannot open any .zip files with Winzip nor Winrar.
I get the message that there not valid archive files.

It all worked the other day and now it doesn't.

The strange things i can unzip file i've downloaded in the last 2 days but non from before that.

I've run Noton AV and found nothing.
    Alos i'm using Winzip 8.

Please help. I have a ton of zips on cd and if the've been lost then i'm in deep s***.

Is there anything special about the Zip files you can't open? Where are they located? How have they been "handled" for storage, archiving, saving to external media? Have you used any unusual or new utilities on those files? Is this system an NT system? If so, what file system is it running? Have you used encryption in any way with respect to these files, or have you used it on the files that were included in the Zip files?

The most common issue causing the "not a valid archive file" error is a bad download. But if all of these files were opening okay until two days ago, and only files less than two days old can be opened now, it makes me think that something happened to corrupt them two days ago. Did you install something, use something, suffer a system crash, rearrange / transport the data in some way at that time?

    Regards,
    Jim

Are these on CDR? Did you expose the disks to heat?

These are zips that are in different locations on my computer. some on cd and some that are in my download dir. i also email one of the files to my work and it had the same problem there.

I tried it again a few mins ago (just got home from work) and everything is unziping fine. Don't ask me i don't know.

    I'm running WinMe. Winzip 8.0

So the problem was cured, essentially, by a reboot?

If it weren't for the file that, after being sent to work, was still listed as an invalid archive file, I'd be thinking about an intermittent hardware problem. I guess that would still be possible, but this is just plain old strange!

    Glad it's working now!

    Jim
