Lord of The Rings Online Preview

Lol, I'm pretty sure it was the OP (check his sig).

Anyway, not bad I guess, though I think I would have enjoyed it more if you had left off the last half of your conclusion.

So far Lord of the Rings Online looks to be a very solid and well presented game. Even in early betas it has been more bug free than the recently released Vanguard.

Nice... LOL....

I agree with the reviewer's statement, I have not encountered very many bugs at all. When I was online the other day though, there were a lot of people complaining about their horse running them off a cliff

Yeah, there's a couple of pathing issues with some of the horse routes.

I'm interested to know why you think this? Because you don't agree with it or that you because you think the conclusion is too long?

I've enjoyed the game so far and am seriously considering pre-ordering it.

Ditto, and there is the lifetime membership offer too... not sure I would take it though as I am not sure it will have 6-7 months of life in it yet. Perhaps if there was more news of post-release plans I could be persuaded 🙂

The first half sounded relatively professional and well put together, but the second half devolved into slang and catch phrases, which I did not enjoy. This actually happens a couple times throughout the review (i.e. "the name is pretty crap").

Personally, I am tired of professional reviews... The ones who never give you their opinion, but spew out politically correct BS. I liked the review... User reviews are way better IMO.

Anyway, just my opinion... 😀

I am hoping that that the game has a more mature audience... WoW would be a decent game if the 12 year olds were not playing... They cuss, argue, act like the world revolves around them and they just really ruin WoW IMO... And Guild Wars... OMG, that is the worst... So, IMO, WoW and GW are not for a mature respectful, polite player bases. DAOC was great in that regards, nearly everything was mature and there were very few aholes running around. I am hoping that the LOTR crowd is more mature so I can finally find myself a new MMO home...

I signed up for the beta, I hope I get in!

IMO this is true. It feels as if the audience is more mature, but whether that will carry through past the Beta stage remains to be seen of course.

Good luck on getting in, hope to see you running around out there 🙂

Fair comments if that is what you like 🙂 Thanks

To put into context, the reviews there will never ever be more than 'relatively professional.' As ArchAngel777 says below there are a zillion sites out there that will be polite, balanced, and professional. The catch is most of them are in the pockets of the publishers and thus will never offend the big names or they get less material and thus less content, and thus less ad revenue. Why do you think the sequel of the sequel of the sequel's (let alone the tripe EA keep spewing out) keep getting scores so high?

I've been playing games for approx 22 years and gave up on magazine reviews when I was 12, todays web versions are no better and there are only 2 sources I look for when assessing whether I should lay out the best part of £50 (in the UK) or £55 (In Sweden)... friends opinions, and genuine gamers as opposed to journalists. Gamerswithjobs.com for instance is a great site for reviews as well as great people. I like reviewers who arent afraid to say it like it is, then I know a game that is praised is genuinely worthy of it. Likewise games that are absolute crap are avoided and my wallet and wife thank me for it 🙂 There are three reviewers at TF and they all share the same opinion and they enjoy calling a spade a spade 🙂

Thx 🙂 You should get in... hasn't open beta started now?

I think maturity will be hard to find in LoTRO. I envisage a few weeks of thousands of annoying buggers charging around with names like L3g0lazz and G1MMLI111 screaming and hollering. In that respect you have to hope MMORPGS are successful (to keep numbers and thus servers up!) but not MEGA successful as that attracts more of them (see WoW). A nice moderate number of subscribers tends to make for a more mature population like DAoC and Eve Online.

LOL, when the game was announced me and my brother were like "Oh man dude, you are gonna see galdalph, legolace, pippen, FrodoBagg3ns, SauronXX, etc... LOL" It was like dude, how many ganders are there gonna be? So, yeah I thought the same thing... This is one game where I hope they enforce the naming policy. You can bet I will report ANYONE who attempts to use any of the main characters names.

Nice overview. It sums up my thoughts on the beta too. I hope the children stay away from the game but I don't think it's likely!

So who's playing in the Stress Test right now?

I'm waiting for the kiddies to go to bed then I am going to login 😉

The server's held up pretty well for the 90 minutes I played, especially for a Stress Test. I thought the game was a lot of fun. The leveling was really easy, and I like the way the game is laid out. The graphics are excellent, and I can run on High detail with a 6800GT with no problem (Very High works okay too, Ultra High was when things got choppy).

I had to stop myself from playing because I don't want to immerse myself too much until it "counts"
