Lord Of The Rings Movie Merchandise...

Well, the action figures that I have seen pictures of so far look pretty amazing. Of course, they have the standard disclaimer that these pictures were not of the final sculpts. I will be keeping my eye out for these to appear in stores.

The collectible card game based on the movie is apparently selling like hotcakes, and supposedly has decent gameplay mechanics. It was given a "Must Try" rating by one of the CCG magazines, I cannot recall which one. Uses pictures from the movie on the cards, of course.

The comic and game store that my friend manages got in some ceramic mugs with imagery from the movie today, and I must say they were very nice looking. Not sure if a person would want to use them as regular drinking glasses, as repeated washings may or may not fade the imagery, and it would suck to drop and break one after spending the money on them. I have not seen the Burger King glasses yet, I need to see if the local BK's have them by now.

All in all, I have the feeling that there will wind up being as much LOTR related merchandise (Or more) as there is Harry Potter. If you have seen some cool movie-related stuff out there, Post here. I am flat broke right now, but I can always sell a kidney if it means being able to purchase more stuff that I do not really need. ;)

Forgot that. They also had various rings patterned after rings in the movie. They were pretty junky looking, though.

The boardgame (not the miniatures game and not the CCG) is a hell of a lot of fun. I highly recommend it. It's a cooperative game and it's a VERY refreshing change from always fighting against the other players.

LMAO! It's a unique game. It comes in an 18" square box with a lot of green on it. It's a fascinating game.

Basically each player is one fo the Fellowship characters and you have to get through all the different parts of the mountain accomplishing various tasks. And you have to vanquish Sarnoc or Mordoc or whatever his name is before whoever has the ring becomes more corrupt than he is (there is a corruption bar and penalties for failing tasks cause either him to move closer to you or you closer to him).

I've played twice and BOTH times it has come down to the very end and we have no option but to use the ring's power and roll ONE specific number or we lose, and miraculously, both times, we made it out.

It's a load of fun if you've got 4-6 people who like to game....doesn't take a whole lot of time to learn or play, either. There is a Hobbit game as well, but it appears to be geared towards a younger crowd--haven't played it.

LOTR Game
Expansion Set

Search that site for Lord Of The Rings and you'll also come up with a few other LOTR games, too. I'm nut sure what the German Language "Die Gefharten" ones are, but the guy that made them (Reiner Kinizia of note for games like Carcassonne, Tichu. and Ohne Furcht Und Adel (Citadels)) is known for great games so they may be worth a shot, too.

I picked up the soundtrack as soon as it came out, and it's AMAZING. Howard Shore is the composer...it's so epic and grand. The music is perfect.
