lol replacing the outlet is cheaper. Well, unless you have no idea what you're doing I guess.

The outlet is newer and not the problem. It seems plugs aren't always properly designed. One plug is snug, another plug is loose.

Irrelevant how new it is. Receptacle is designed to hold both snugly. Your's has failed. You have described symptoms of a receptalce that has exceeded its 'break and make' numbers. It is worn out. Replace it.
