Anyone on here confirm that's what the code is - MB & VC in sig below.

I was in the middle of a game and the Computer Blue Screened and then rebooted with no video and the beeps.

Hard drive seems to like it's loading Windows, but without video I can't be sure.

So what's the best bet this days - 8800GTS or the 9800GT.

Haven't really seen any reviews on the 9800GT.

Video card not present. Did you kick your tower or something?
Try re-seating your vid card.

Nope, didn't hit the Tower, it's sits on my Desk off to the left.

Re-seated the VC - same beep codes.

Moved VC to the SLI (second PCIex) slot and the same thing happens :(

From what I know, on my Asus board, I had a long beep and two short ones when I was setting a multiplier that the ram didn't liked. Try reseting the bios and see what happens.

could also be a power issue, maybe your PSU bit the dust.

oh and clean off the dust! :)

Ohhh, not a good sign. If you are able, try:

A different power connector
A different video card
A different Power supply
Your card in a different computer

In other words you need to do troubleshooting... but if you was playing all fine and you didnt do anything to the computer.. no kicks, no changes in configuration or anything, and was working fine for some time... then is problably some hardware failure....

I agree pelu. If you just built a new computer then I Would say check the power connectors and the like, but the computer just blue screened and then didn't work. Every time I had a hardware failure in a working computer it blue screened (even on a non OS HDD failure) and then the component in question wouldn't work.

Keys pretty much nailed it, try a different power connector (maybe one of the rails in the PSU died, if it works, then the PSU still needs replacing)
Try a different PSU and a different video card, or try your video card in a different computer.

It can also be other hardware that failed, like the CPU or RAM or the mobo itself.

Well, I'm going by the beep code I'm getting indicating that it's the Video Card:

http://www.amptron.com/html/bios.beepcodes.html

I'm wondering from everyone else's experience if the VC is actually the culprit or if it turns out to be something else?

I don't have another Computer with a PCIex Video Card (all AGP), so I can't swap that around.

I'm really starting to suspect it may turn out to be my MB. Fortunately I have a spare MB (same) and CPU (FX55) laying around, so I can try that out this evening. I didn't have a whole lot of time to do much last night.

I also ordered a new Video Card today in case that actually is the problem here - should be here tomorrow with any luck.

So, last night I put together my spare MB & CPU, installed everything else, and powered it up.

No beep codes - and still no video.

New Video Card should be here today, then hopefully I'll have a clearer picture of what's going on (leaning to PSU now).

It's always good to have a spare AGP or PCI-e card laying around, (super cheap ones of course), just for testing/emergency purposes.
About your spare motherboard, are you certain that it is a working board? I know I have hardware that I haven't used for so long, I cant remember if it works or not. Anyway, I hope it is just your vid card and not anything else. Let us know how you make out.

Actually no, I'm not certain the spare MB is good.

My MB died about a year and half ago and I RMA'd it. In the inter rim I bought a new MB.
ASUS confirmed that the MB I had sent in was bad, so they sent me a new one - I never tested it, just assumed (I know) it was good.

I Really hadn't planned on building a whole new System, but it's slowly looking like it may be going down that road :(

Okay, had a Hardware delivery delay (UPS) so I didn't get the new Video Card until just a little while ago.

VC is/was not the problem - my PSU took a dump :(

Old VC is okay.
New MB is okay (apparently so far).

Old MB I need to check out. Right I have to pull out all my Power cabling and install a new PSU.

Out of desperation, I picked up an Antec EarthWatts 500W power supply. These any good (hope so)?

On a side note, with these extra parts now in play, it looks like I'll be upgrading my Daughter's Computer (XP 1800 & MX400) - yeah, it's old, but it works ;)

Pretty much the reason I've upgraded my wife and son's computers over the years - by troubleshooting and upgrading my own computer! One item useful to have around is an old PCI (not PCIe) video card. I have a Radeon 7000 PCI card, great if you have a mixture of AGP and PCIe motherboards in the house.

antec earthwatt is a rebranded (and cheaper) seasonic... so that 500watt earthwatts is considered to be the best PSU in that wattage and price range (the seasonic is identical, but more expensive).

Thanks taltamir, that's good to know.

It does have an odd tendency to emit a very high pitch on occasion, usually when transitioning in 3-D mode - I've seen this comment (pitch) on the egg as well. Probably only noticeable since the side of my case is off until I get all the parts to get this thing back to normal.

The casualties keep mounting from this incident unfortunately.
To date:

Power Supply
Motherboard
CD/DVD drive
RAM (?)
more (?)

The RAM I'm not certain about yet. It has an error (Prime95) at the timings I was using (2-2-2-5), but is okay at 2.5-2-2-5. I would do further tests on it, but it seems this spare MB is not 100% - it won't shutdown, well power down would be more accurate. Windows shuts down like it supposed to, but when it's supposed to trip the power off it kind of "bounces" (relay bounce?). The power drops, but it clicks and the CPU & Video Card fans kick back on and stay running. The Power or Reset switches do nothing, the fans just keep running and the System won't restart. I have to manually turn off the PSU

So, once I get my other MB back from RMA I get to send this one in.

I'm hoping my CPU (XP64 3700+) is okay. I'm using an FX55 in this spare MB, I don't want to tear things apart right now to find out. I'll put the 3700 in one of the kids machines when all the MB's are back. Hopefully my RAM will be okay when the dust settles as well.

At least my old Video Card and my Soundcard survived :)

Make sure your pwr on button connector is plugged into the right set of contacts on the MB
you might have it swapped with something else.

On my Asus M2N-E board, the long beep and 2 short beeps seem to indicate a memory incompatibility. And, my BIOS code gets stuck on C1 (Another handy thing to have, is a PCI BIOS display card. It just shows the BIOS progress codes, but it can show you if something is happening or not.)

Re-checked & re-did all the Switch connectors. Everything was right the first time, still the same issue.

I tried the old MB with RAM and without, both Video cards, and both Power Supplies. The old PSU and the old MB are definitely dead.
The new Video card (EVGA 9600 GT KO) works in regular Windows mode, but about five minutes into a game the Video shuts off. This issue is also prevalent on the egg forums for these cards (after the fact). The old card still works, and that's what I'm using for now.

I guess it's not out of the realm of possiblity that my luck is really bad, and this new PSU I picked up has issues as well.
That could by why my System doesn't shut down properly, and not be a MB problem.

Haven't checked to see if it took out my Printer yet . . . almost afraid too after all the other casualties.

Just call me Schleprock :(
