Loooong Beep???

Got a P4PB-Ultra mobo. sometimes it locks up during boot and I get a long beep(about 5 seconds) continues the beep until I reboot. Does not do this all the time. Memory checks out good. Bios is Phoenix. Anybody know what might be wrong?

is your video card plugged in to the power supply?

Video card is plugged into the AGP slot. No other wires coming from video card.

Hey RC,

looked up Phoenix error codes, no long/5 second beep listed.

That's a pretty old mobo: how are the caps looking? Might be dying.

Also, it's a VIA chipset, not my favorite....looks like you got a lot of use out of it.

Anyway, not sounding good....but you knew that.

Long beep usually means fan or cooling not working. Was added to a lot of bios over the past couple years. They made it annoying so people would be forced to cut off the pc and check the problem before the cpu burns up. Check and see if the fan is turning at its normal RPM. Some fans will still turn, but really slow when they get old , so they appear to be working.
