Looks like X700 and x600 are dead.

Read at the Inq and a few other places ATI is coming out with a Radeon 800GT 8 Pipeline chip to compete with the 6600GT. It will be SLI also *Cough* *Cough*.

So I would imagin the x600 and x700 are doomed chips since the x700 was supposed to compete with the 6600gt initially but has pretty much failed at that.

The x600 is just a waste. Not sure if anyone ever bought one.

9800 Low Line
800GT mid Line
800XL mid Upper
800XT upper until the R520 get out in Sept.

By then, wouldn't Nvidia release a 12 piped 7600GT of some sort? I guess that's what sucks about being behind in the game.

This does seem a bit too late.

The X800XL is currently the best price/performance video card out there...why bother with a lower end one no one will buy...

Is this a next gen card? Because for pcie, the x800 currently beats a 6600gt for the same price, so they got competition already, although it's kinda late to the game.

I agree I just wonder if these are poor yield 800's or 800xl's marked as 800GT's and can possibly be pipe unlocked and overclocked?

I can't believe that ATi is going to launch yet another SKU based on R420 so late in the game. Their execution hasn't been too impressive this generation - too many different cards to go up against a relatively stable lineup from Nvidia.

Most likely they have a pile of 8-pipe x800s lying around that they realized they could make a buck on.

The thing was they had a ton of inventory Something like 171 days worth.

Dell bought a freight train load of X300's and X600's.

As far as the 800GT goes, take the GT, change it to a 9, then move it in front of the 8. 😉
