Well the differences are not too dramatic it looks, so possibly yes since its likely the D70 will be discontinued....

looks more like a "special edition" than a true replacement. a few added features, but still same 6.1mp, etc. maybe it will come with a nice Coach case. ;)

i would expect a D100 replacement before a D70 replacement. also if it were a new camera, it would have a new name, instead of "D70S" (?)

Didn't they just replace the Nikon D2H with the D2Hs though?

It's probably more of an upgrade from the manufacturing side than from the consumer side. I'm willing to bet the D50 and the D70s share a lot of the same internal guts as the old D70, but in order to make everything work Nikon probably did some tweaking. I don't think they'll lower the price on the D70s but I do think the D50 kit will go for around $800, if not lower.

BTW the D50 manual also shows a new lens - 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX.

the D70s is basically THE SAME camera as the D70, it has a slightly larger LCD 2in instead of 1.8, uses a new battery that lasts even longer, and well thats about it
SAME sensor, same features, same everything else

still no vert grip or MLU

the D50 which is also cmming out will basically be like Canons Dreb, Same sensor just dumbed down features and such

Heh, got it with the kit lens. Not sure what to get next. I'm probably going to get the 50mm f/1.4 (over the 1.8) since that seems like a good investment. I'm going to stay away from EF-S mount lenses since I think that won't last too long.

Any recommendations? I think the 24-70L would be nice as well.

D70s seems pointless compares to D70.

Can't wait for true D100 replacement, not that there is anything wrong with my D70.
Just like new toys :)

If the D100 replacement specs looks like this : 8MP (or more), at least 0.90x viewfinder, 3D Matrix II, i-TTL, CAM1300 or better, MLU, 5 fps, vertical grip option then put me down for one !

No doubt.

I have the 50mm f/1.4 and absolutely love it. The bokeh on it is fantastic and it is very fast. Even if you don't like it you could probably get rid of it at minimal loss.

Yeah, but it is hard to pass on that 50mm f/1.8 for $65. Think I'm going to pick one up for my DRXT

There are a million threads over at DPreview about the expected life of the EFS lens, and the conclusion tends to be they will be around for a while...

yea you I and everyone else wishes that to be true

I highly doubt they will give it Cam 1300, def not Cam 2000 the D1, D1H and D1X used Cam 1300 and the D2H and D2X now use Cam 2000, as well as the F5 and F6

we will prob get Cam900 again

but the rest of that is a must
