Looks like the bribe isn't big enough

Apparently the 6 billion we are going to pay Turkey and the loan guarantees aren't enough. Reminds me of the old plot where the cop offers the informant with bad hearing money. The more he pays the better he hears. Wonder how much it is going to cost for Turkey to hear exactly what we want?

Bah. That's just diplomatic huffing and puffing. That's the way it works. They give us what we want, and we let them hem and haw about it so they can give the illusion that they aren't just giving in immediately.

Good, I hope they hold out indefinately because no one in that country supports the war anyways. They know what its about, and they know that thier country is in deep sh!t if they allow us to use them as a base.

this is so funny --

a couple of days ago everyone was screaming that Turkey was in imminent danger and that "The Axis Of Weasels [TM]" is responsible if anything should happen with Turkey. And all of the sudden Turkey itself is blocking the deployment of thousands of American troops. I guess they feel not so threatened anymore (read: they want more money)

I don't know if any of you guys saw the speech of the Turkish prime minister in the Turkish parliament but he was pretty harsh for the USA.

On another note

Jack Straw when questioned yesterday by a journalist about the public opinion in GB and Europe in general
"We certainly have to take in consideration what the public opinion is thinking"

The new polls released on BBC today about the public opinion in GB
"Approval rating of Tony Blair has hit an all time low"
"Approval from the public opinion for a war against Iraq is melting away"

Yip -- The Vice Governor Of West Texas is getting in a tight spot and this time it's not Bush his ass

The US is losing the momentum. They better hurry up. At the rate it's going now, when we hit next week France, Germany and Great Britain are best friends again.
--LOL--

Forget to wear a helmet again HayabusaRider?

What's good for the goose is good for the gander. If France can hold the carrot of EU membership in front of other countries in exchange for aligning with France against the US, then we can certainly dangle carrots of our own.

Don't act so righteous.

Struck a nerve I see. Actually, I am pretty pragmatic about the whole thing. I do see people complaining about the Europeans acting in self interest while neglecting to mention that our "allies" and we do the same thing. This "New Europe" that Rumsfeld seems so fond of is by and large opportunistic nations siding with those that they believe will give the biggest handout. What struck me is the very obvious way this is being presented by Turkey. You see that the Turks are "evaluating the costs". Hard to imagine a more bald faced attempt at a shakedown. Of course you might portray the Europeans as selfish, and our "friends" as being noble, but that wouldn't be surprising. They are all doing what comes naturally in world politics.

Certainly France is pissed. Rumsfeld was pissed too. A bribe is a bribe and being pissy is being just that.

Edit- And I always wear my helment when riding my Hayabusa, even where not required too. No squiddy here :p

New Europe= do what the United States wants you to do, get cash.
Old Europe= do what the French and Germans want, get acceptance.

I choose old.

Sure, sell it to the PRC. Or Bin Laden, since we're apparently already supplying all your terrorists.

Great...we're going to shell out all this money to Turkey and guess which country will be our new problem in 15 years (Turkey, perhaps?)

Nice sig hagbard:

To attempt to silence a man is to pay him homage, for it is an acknowledgement that his arguments are both impossible to answer and impossible to ignore.

That must be why we hear so much from you. Nobody cares if you talk a lot because your arguments are impotent.

Once again we see the difference between an "ally" and a friend. For those who wish to bargain for an alliance with the U.S., I hope they understand that when the time comes when they need help, we won't feel very obligated to offer aid.
