Looks like the 360 Slim and Project Natal rename slipped out

Advertisements on an Italian gaming website may have given the game away ahead of some of Microsoft's big reveals for E3 this week. The advertisements appear to show what the the long rumored Xbox 360 "Slim" will look like and feature as well as reveal the official name for Project Natal.

According to the Italian website, the new Xbox 360 "Slim" looks like the picture below. The ad states that not only does it sport a 250GB hard drive but also built-in WiFi. The lack of built-in WiFi has been a sore point for many gamers as the PS3 and Wii both have this feature.

The ad also says that the new Xbox 360 "Slim" is compatible with "Kinect". Presumably this is Project Natal as there is no other upcoming Xbox 360 compatible product that would feature so prominently in the ad. The press conference for Microsoft's Cirque de Soleil styled reveal for Natal / Kinect happens on Tuesday at 3:30 PM EST and can be seen on MTV or Xbox.com.

Below is now pulled ad for the Xbox 360 "Slim" and Kinect in motion:

So is this going to take over the $300 price point? If it's at $250 I don't see Sony being able to compete (on hardware) at current prices. Though, 250 seems like an awfully large amount for an entry level. Perhaps there will be a basic one at 120 to compete with the current ps3 offerings?

If that is slim then it doesn't look much smaller which sucks but more features like bigger harddrive and Wifi are definitely awesome if kept the same price.

As long as it doesn't sound like a jet plane or a vacuum cleaner, it's an improvement. My Falcon Elite is seriously loud D:

And I don't really care about the shape, I can hardly see my console anyway. The neighbour can easily hear it though... The leaked one however does look like someone dropped it on the floor and there's a dent now 😛

I never expected it to be appreciably smaller. The 360 didn't have much more room to shrink in comparison with the PS3 original vs the PS3 Slim.

One thing I don't notice is an external hard drive. It looks like either they didn't put it on or it's internal.

I was hoping it'd look a little more sleek... something that wouldn't stick out like a sore thumb with the rest of my AV equipment.

Guess I was wrong.

Also I don't see any front USB slots or a door but maybe it's the angle why I can't see them. I wouldn't like to have only rear usb slots.

Probably hidden behind a door that's hard to see with the all black color scheme.

The Kinect event is going on right now but MS isn't allowing any cameras, video, or liveblogging. Some are tweeting pics though.

The event is supposed to be broadcast on Tuesday at 3:30 PM on MTV.

Of course, the big press conference is at 1:30 PM EST tomorrow.

I actually kinda like the kinect name.

Here's hoping there's more to the 360 slim than meets the eye. Built in wifi is nice but I'm strictly hardwired for my consoles - dont want no lag here.

Here's it officially:

You knew it was coming, right? Hot on the heels of getting leaked a wee bit early Microsoft has made official the rebadging of a device desperately seeking a new name: "Project Natal" is no more, replaced by Microsoft Kinect. At a circus- and celebrity-filled affair, MS wrapped everyone in high-tech panchos (pictured after the break courtesy of Joystiq) and then took the wraps off of the new title. Quite a few game demos were shown, ranging from Star Wars to tiger petting, the Kinect interface to the Dashboard was shown (said by some to be Minority Report-like), and a video chat app called, wait for it, Video Chat. Through here you can naturally talk to friends (up to four total people at once was "shown"), and also share photos.

Sadly, no hands-on time was given nor did MS reveal the two crucial bits of information we're waiting for: price and date. Naturally a holiday release is expected, to give the Xbox 360 a nice sales boost, but we're hearing price rumors as high as $150. These choice bits of intel will surely be unveiled at Microsoft's event tomorrow -- if someone doesn't beat 'em to it. The hardware is still looking exactly like the early picture above, shattering hopes of a slimmer design to match new Slim Xbox 360.

Update: We've got official photos now, though solid textual info is still scarce. Stand by!

Damn, built in wireless sounds nice. The design is a bit ugly, though...

Too bad I already have a 360.

They showed a Star Wars game where you used your arms to control the light-saber and use Force powers like Force Push. It was on-rails but the response was more positive for that than the previous games showed.

I wonder if someone will come out with a true Para Para game in Japan for Kinect (I prefer Natal). Something like that could prove certainly interesting for the Japanese market, especially given the lack of traction over there.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=para+para&aq=f if anyone doesn't know what Para para is.
Kinect would be almost perfect for that sort of thing. Much more in depth in many ways than things like DDR.

Previous "controller" type for that sort of game.

That's lame. Also, it looks pretty laggy in that family video. Right at the start there a noticeable gap between when the people jump and when their characters jumped.

And what's with their "Kin" branding? They released those "Kin" phones and now they have this "Kinect". It seems more ridiculous to me than "Wii". I'm sure I'll get used to it as I did with "Wii", but it's still sort of dumb.

I'd assume it's a play on 'connect' and 'kinetic', connecting the players movements to the game. Or something.
Natal was better.

Also, I wonder if there's a difference between having one and four people being tracked. With more people there's more to process, so it might be laggier, maybe?

Yes, it's a play on words between kinetic and connect. Lame marketing PR stuff. Who knows though. Wii eventually grew on everyone.

Anyways, yeah pretty much everything at the Cirque de Soleil event was pre-recorded and had the Soleil performers mimicing the action on screen. The whole event was a dumb overdone PR stunt by Microsoft. They would have done better doing the live demos like they will likely do during their press conference today and during the rest of the week.
