right now:
234 for, 190 against.
says voting has been over for a few minutes...but a good vote to watch.
so the president will just deny this?

If the president does veto this, I hope it gets overturned.

Aye.

I just don't like the fact that our religiously-motivated president, a schmuck who can't even say "nuclear" correctly, is deciding the course of scientific research in this country.

Which is why I hope they never clone him. :Q

Those who are too stupid to understand scientific topics, let alone pronounce their names, should STFU and get out of the way of those who are getting good things done.

Politically, this is a disaster for Shrub. If he doesn't sign the bill, he will dubbed as anti-healthcare and alienate more people in the mainstream. If he does sign the bill, he upsets his whackjob religious base.

If he vetoes I seriously doubt Congress will override it; they couldn't even get a 2/3 majority to pass it in the first place.

290 votes to override. There are not enough votes to switch. GWB will probably use his first EVER veto to say no to expansion of embryonic stem cell research. Following the S. Koreans and the French and others, the horse is out of the barn. GWB is delaying the inevitable.

He'll veto it because it the stem-cell process begins with "babies" (= two-day old human embryos). If you look carefully through the microcope at the little tykes, you can see them giving us the stem-fingers.

Old people should get out of the way for younger people too.. you don't have the capacity to learn much anymore, and you are just taking up resources.

Ahh the banter of youth, you will grow up someday Crimson, trust me and you will understand there is more to life then youth.
When you are younger you think you know it all already, get a bit older and you learn that there is so much you never knew you have not been taught yet -the beauty of experience and wisdom.
Every day is a lesson, you will see.

Politically GWB could order troops to bomb an orphanage, he can't run again, so politically there are very few ramifications. But thanks for showing your enlightened and tolerant attitude by once again resorting to name calling and insults.

No, we can always get him out still, remember the monica bj thing?
There are armies of pissed off folks waiting to punch the "nuke gw from office button"
millions actually.
And the world would pat us on the back for it also.
Actually it would be wise, I do not see how the reputation of this country could improve without giving him the boot at some point, just wait, the GOP eats their own.
If you think he is anything more then a good-ole boy figurehead for corporate interests you are sadly mistaken, he could be booted tommorrow and by next week with the american mindset people would be like GW who?
(excpet those of us who pay attention to these things)

If you're talking about me, your mouth is outrunning your knowledge, as well as your common sense.

Find someone else to attack personally, or STFU. You won't be happy with any other course of action.

I'll print this page out and give it to you in 40 years. We'll see if you still want that bullet.

Completely off topic, but I'm just curious. Not an attack or anything, but Steeplerot: why do you format your posts the way you do?

Do you mean why he posts like this
all the time?
I don't know but maybe you should ask him why he posts really oddly. It would probably be better if you asked him in a private
message though.

Probably the same reason I only have one or two sentences per line.

It helps me seperate my thoughts. It's easier to read.

It's just a habit :)

hehe, his IE window is the size of a postage stamp

oh, and if Bush vetos, I hope congress overrides it. I can think of no better way to spread the "culture of life" than to offer a terminally ill cancer patient a true cure and 70yrs of happiness they might have never known

they cant.
someone pointed it out...but you know, people only read the first couple posts.

i watched the debate on it today (early work day for me) and the opposition really didnt come up with anything new, i dont think. but following the vote they were very positive that momentum was moving toward them...which is probably true...one of the c-span callers pointed out that the president is using the madison avenue tactic of memorable repetition to keep saying that stem cells = death and that adult stem cell research is better.
the response to the above argument that so far stem cell research doesnt provide any good results is basically the logic one: stopping research is not the way to find out if something works.
anyway, i thought it was a reasonable debate on both sides with only the most obscure slips into rhetoric or quasi-name calling.
there was a funny moment when a man asked if jesus gave humans brains and then told us not to use them. i doubt it helped his point but it made me laugh. (you know, the idea of jesus with a sack of brains)
