Looks like I'm gonna be pulling an all nighter at work tonight.

Our Exchange 2000 server went down this morning, and once I figured out the problem (the 16GB non-enterprise version IS limitation), I had to start copying this 16GB database to another harddrive in order to work with it (takes about an hour just to copy it). Then run the MS utilities on it (takes about 5 hours :( ) Then copy it back; another hour, then purge the mailboxes that are causing the problem; then run the MS utility again (the Information Store defrag utility), another 5 hours and then it'll be time to go to work in the morning :)

Good thing I got AT to keep me company tonight (along with alot of caffeine a wicked diet pill :) )

Need some tunes, found my old Faith No More CD in the car (Angeldust). Forgot how incredible it is. Does not sound dated at all! edit: and it's over 10 years old!

I have to check on it regularly to make sure it dosent crap out. :(

I almost had someone bring me a cot to lay down on, but then I'd have been out for the night.

the quesiton remains: are you getting paid overtime? Or are you salaried?

Salary. Not getting any extra for this. But it is rare that I have to do this. In my 5 years here, I've only had to stay overnight/weekends 5 times (including tonight). It's one of the unexpected parts of the profession.

You and me both.
Gotta make slides for review tomorrow. What a waste of my time too. I would rather be designing than documenting.

30% done on my final Information Store defrag. I've already done one, deleted the mailbox in question, and now running another Information Store defrag as suggested by microsoft and others to replenish the used space.. Supposedly I should be in good shape after this run, which will be "just about time" for the staff to arrive.
I've also been told that this may not work and may have to resort to plan 'B'.

Ouch. All I can say really...

So do you get to come in late tomorrow or do you have to keep working?

Have to keep working.... Unfortunately, my only other backup person is on vacation this week, so I am the only I.T. person on staff until Monday.

Don't feel bad.

We spent 30 hours trying to get Lantastic and Scott Studios AXS to work correctly on one of our systems. Lantastic over coax on Windows 95.

:Shudder:

The problem was AXS with it's damned proprietary sound card (It's a music/spot scheduling program). The problem was that it can't handle the computer using DMA for the drives *and* it can't handle the idea of extended memory.

Must...kill...programmers...

It always works that way, huh? Something that should be easy has some proprietary crap built in that alters the entire spectrim.

Mine tonight is literally a "built-in" size limit that's costing me hours. :(
