Looks like I have a dead board, time to upgrade?

I built the rig in my sig almost two years ago, so everything except the power supply is that old or newer. The power supply is a Skyhawk 570 watt with triple 12-volt rails which, when I bought it, seemed like a great unit.

I will do my best to make this short. Two days ago I noticed some glitches with my computer (getting slower, internet problems) so I did a full scan with norton 09 and found I had 2 viruses in a handful of locations (on the windows xp raid array). After it finished I restarted and something triggered a scan disk at startup. It actually found some errors that were fixed and it restarted seemingly normal. I thought this was odd, but I know virus removal can be messy at times so I chalked it up to that. So yesterday the computer decides it doesn't want to complete booting into xp at all but seems to work fine in 7. I was incredibly busy Thursday and Friday so I didn't have time to work on it at the time.

This morning after repairing another PC I hooking mine back up and no video. Take cover off and diagnostic LED's stay on FF. Fans and hard drives spin up fine, but power light is red (at least I think it is the power light) and the cd drive was non responsive, but the light curiously stayed on. Reset bios, unplugged everything, changed memory sticks and slots, swapped power supply. The only thing left for me to do tomorrow is swap out CPU, but I REALLY doubt it's that.

So I am thinking about just going to a Core 2 E chip and new board. What I would like to hear is any feedback on my problem and if you think I am crazy for not just getting a decent new AM2 board. (I already know my wife will think so anyway.) My video card has recently started to bottleneck me in a couple games, so I would hate for the CPU and board to bottleneck me later when I upgrade my video card.

Thanks for reading and i appreciate any input from you all.

Sounds similar to my situation at least somewhat. My board would be stable for a while and then randomly bluescreen, lose the ddr2 speed settings dropping them from what they are suppsoed to run at 1066 back down to 800. Other odd things. Finally culminated in one moring starting it up and it hanging on usb controller initilization. Rebooted it a few times and it gave up the ghost and did the no posty no video thing on me.

So I ordered that gigabyte board that anand reviewd and it comes on monday ill let ya know how i like it if you can wait a few days.

And yes just go C2D already pick up an 8800gt and youve got a fast cheap system.
