Anyone gonna guess who its gonna be?

I suspect Id Software. A search of gog for the keywords doom and quake did not return any results.

It's going to be one of the "Big 5" that they don't have signed - Microsoft, Square Enix, EA, LucasArts, or Take2. If it's LucasArts, I'm going to just start forwarding them my paycheck now.

id is on Steam, not that it'd stop them from bringing anything to GOG. I wonder if it'd include rights to Commander Keen though, that'd be awesome.

Ah, memories. Commander Keen was one of the very first computer games I played after our family purchased a Packard Bell 386 SX 20 Mhz machine from Costco for Christmas 1991. I never had a Nintendo or anything like that growing up, so it was a pretty big deal to see a "real game" and not just some educational Math Blaster BS or whatever stuff we had at school on the old Apple IIs and IIIs. I convinced my parents to order the actual game on 5.25" floppies direct from Apogee (id's publisher/distributor at the time), and remember when they showed up in a manilla envelope with Xeroxed instructions/installation guide. AND THE SHAREWARE EPISODE OF WOLFENSTEIN 3D, which blew my little 10-year old mind.

Man, those were the days. *sniff*

I thought GOG focused on games that do not have DRM.

This would mean that the newer microsoft games would not be available, due to the games requiring a windows live account.

And with the always-on internet connection requirements of some of the new EA games (Command and Conquer 3 and 4 requires an always-on internet connection), I doubt they will be listed either.

I'm thinking LucasArts for some reason. I hope so I'd love to play Grim Fandango again

LucasArts would seem to have the best library for GOG, but are the older games supported on modern OSes? I'd love to go back through some of those games.

Some will work fine. Others won't. Scumm games can just have a new Scumm built for them, which would likely be easier than working from the old Scumm. Others will take varying amounts of work. Amortized over the catalog, I doubt it would be too costly.

GoG already has Activision on board. If they can get Activision, then they can get EA.

I'd say Ubisoft is actually still the worst in terms of draconian DRM. Don't get me wrong, EA is bad, but Ubisoft is still the worst offender.

Yea, Lucas Arts made some cool games. Too bad they went to the "dark side" and focused on turning KOTOR into an MMO and brought out those lame Force Unleashed games as well.

I would love to see a new Battlefront, Republic Commando, or KOTOR single player game.

I'm really curious to see which developer is joining GoG: any way you cut it, there's going to be some great additions there!

The teaser says it is the "biggest announcement ever" so i guess it could be taken more than one way. EA has a gigantic back catalog of games that are just sitting and collecting dust, i don't see how it could be anything but profit for them to make a distribution deal with gog. Crossing my fingers for DK2, System Shock 1&2, and Undying.

GoG makes them so they can run on modern O/Ses. At least thats what they said back when they first started the company. I guess they do some kind of port thingy. The games that can be modified enough to run XP/Vista/W7 anyway. Some games are just to much trouble though.

Lucasarts has already released some of their old adventure games on Steam. They did what GOG usually does for such games, implemented a DOS emulation like DosBox. However, for Lucasarts, they used ScummVM I believe. The only problem I have with it is that they forced a specific soundcard for the music. I think it is the MT-32 emulation but I grew up with a Soundblaster OPL-2 compatible soundcard and I would like to be able to change the ScummVM to that.

In that case, I really hope its LucasArts because I would love to play Rogue Squadron on my Windows 7 box.

If it is LA, I could easily. See buying the entire old catalogue for like $5 or less each.

Also I want new Star Wars Rebellion please. If it's Lucas Arts I'll be pretty happy. I love a lot of their old games. A few of them have some compatibility problems with 7.
