Some stupid people who think there should be a peaceful resolution. Canada's lax immigration laws certainly didn't help prevent this tragedy. But we did all pay our respects, as I know all 900 people at my school had a 2 minute silence and played the star spangled banner....

Summary of what we could probably put out to Afganistan (or wherever)

A squad or 2 of CF18's (F/A18's for you Americans)
Some hercules for transport (Large 4 engine aircraft)
Several semi high tech bombers with laser guided bombs etc.
1400 soldiers armed with M16's and their respective supplies I'm sure
1 Supply boat
Several frigates
A destroyer

And one thing I find a little funny

<< Finance Minister Paul Martin said the money will be there if needed. >>

Money is needed already, fool.

We gave peace a chance for a decade. Now it's time to call Bin Laden's bluff.

I'll bet you $5 there are more guns in Los Angeles (sp?) than all of Canada!

But bleh I'm actually supporting my government for once, so lets not start mudslinging at Canada, we're doing something after all.

That quote about the JTF2s not being deployed in enemy territory is bullsh*t. They've been out in Yugoslavia during that conflict but it wasn't publicized. They were also going to end the Peru embassy conflict via Trojan Horse- remember when Canada was going to provide a safe travel Hercules aircraft for the embassy hostage takers?:Q

edit: my mistake...careful use of words by the media. They aren't "trained" to operate in enemy territory. Kinda makes you wonder why they were there in the first place! I think JTF2s are trained more for close quarter battles though.

I really don't know much about JTF2 and I've heard so many different things about them I don't know what the hell there doing at any given time. There too damn secret.

I was going to say that I thought they were more specialized on anti terrorism, but had a little training for hostile country military ops. But I really don't have a clue, so I didn't say it until your edit GL.

We do realize it, we just refuse to admit it...;)

You know you a good ally when between the two countries there is a border that is pertty much unguarded, is there another one like that in the world? I think not...Hell canada has been playing smart for years, they have no close enemies, so y the hell do they need a large standing military(not to mention they have a big brother called NATO with a bunch of toys to use)?

Scouzer I didn't even see your original post!

Anyhow, do a search on Google for 'JTF2'. You'll find some cool information....like this:

<< Joint Task Force Two (JTF2) is the Canadian Armed Forces elite counter-terrorist/special operations unit. Although the Joint Task Force is trained in counter-terrorism, it is believed that the unit operates more like an SAS-type special operations force. JTF2's exact roles and missions, however, are not made public. >>

BTW, for those of you who don't know how badly underfunded the Canadian military is:

We spent $7.2billion CDN annually on our military.
You spend, what, $290billion USD annually?

I say this is a huge endeavour for our already cash stapped military.

Good link. I guess Global didn't know what the hell they were talking about.

Global says there not like the British SAS.
This site says they operate just like them.

I've heard they were deployed to all of those native Indian uprisings but the media never caught a glimpse of them because...well I guess they were doing their jobs.

They're probably the only part of the military to get adequate funding (not perfect mind you). I speculate this is because they're the ones that provide government security. Go figure... They're extremely secretive though. Even on the net, you won't find more than a dozen webpages about them and even then - only links to newspaper articles that mention them.

Think you have what it takes;)

Sure didn't get nearly as much response as I anticipated since many Americans were mad on this forum since Canada hadn't offered military support and we're their damn neighbours!

Canada needs republicans ;)

$40 million a year for 200 guys isn't too shabby methinks. Now that they got guns and training grounds, $40 million would cover a lot of ammunition.

Those uniforms look really cool though hehe, but I'm too chubby for that kinda thing :)

Man.. is there REALLY a true "hate" for canada in the US? I've honestly never seen it..

I mean, obviously there are going to be the joking "hey, you canucks suck!" type of stuff, and vise-versa. Think two same-aged brothers. And comparisons of eachothers national merit/worth.. But man, I NEVER knew of anyone who "hated" canada as a country, just the guy we get to beat up on but if anyone else tries to get a punch in we fsck 'em up. Ya know?

I don't know, that comment above took me off guard. I think I speak for the US as a whole when I say we don't hate you guys, we rather like you (as long as you bring the beer! ;) )

peace,

-Phil

My friends and I often joke around that Americans suck, but hell, I plan to get a degree and move to California so I just play along even though I'll be American soon enough hopefully.

I could understand that... since they were simply formed to replace the RCMP anti-terrorism division, but they wanted it under military control. But i'm almost sure it's moved beyond that, because they have had operations outside of Canada since. They're a very secretive group, even the numbers are speculative... there is no information as to where they train, who leads it, where they're base, or what kind of weapons they use.

But that's all the assistance Canada is offering? That's really disappointing... i had no doubt that Canada was going to help this war, but i expected more.

Canada or canadians in no way HATE americans, as one worried american on here has wondered out loud.

If anything it is similar to two brothers of the same age that sorta push and shove each other around and have that competitive edge, from schooling to anything... "gee mom! i got an A!", very good son!, why son#2, how come you didnt get an A?" (Canada being rated #1 country to live in for hte past 7 years is a good example), then son #2 wins the state championship to up his brother who got the A+ in school, etc... that kinda thing, its all in good sport :)

if anything though, canadians just roll their eyes at some things americans say due to their lack of world understanding and ignorance of what is going on around htem.

I grew up in a household were my dad always made me watch the suppertime news, and we had 3 different newspapers delivered to our house... i was always on top of what was going on in the world, even in elementary school. I learned how to read not by "the lil engine that could" but by the national newspapers.

my father currently travels all over the place, and for about 5 years was working in the states for a good chunk of time, and he would try and discuss world politics, news, current events and none of the americans would bother... they would just scoff and say "its soo far away, why should i worry? it wont affect me"

im gonna say that again, MOST AMERICANS THINK THAT WHAT HAPPENS IN THE WORLD AROUND THEM WILL HAVE NO AFFECT ON THEIR ABLITY TO BUY A BIG MACK...

a few yaers ago, you could argue that point very effectivly, its true, things that happen in the world outside the US really would have no tangible effect for the majority of hte americans, but how many americans heard the name OSAMA BIN LADEN For the first time on tuesday????? HE'S NOT NEW!!!!! they have known about him for at least a decade and ever since the embessy bombings. Also, as a Canadian, we get a slightly different view of what is going on, i mean no disrepct by this, but someitmes i get nauseated watching CNN... and how they cover certain aspects of world affairs. It can be so 'dumbed down' or completly overlooked that its just sillly... where as here, we have the CBC, which isnt great at times, but the evening news called "The National" is a really excellent 1 hour long news show, that has more similiarites with the BBC than CNN.

But i can tell you one thing. I think americans are now going to (hopefully) question and keep better informed on what happens in the world, more so than they have before, and i think that is a good thing.

no doubt about it, Canadians would fight side by side with any american to defend the same values that we both have....

at least this Canadian would.

in a heart beat.
