Ok. I want to upgrade to an Athlon 64 processor and need some opinions as to which one I should actually get. I am currently looking at this processor mainly because of the price, if I do this I am gonna be on a budget. Do you think I should spend the extra money and get something bigger, like the 3400+?

Also need a recommendation as to which Mobo I should buy. Any links to reviews for them would be appreciated also.

Thanks in advance.

I would have researched this myself using one of my magazine subscriptions, but I moved recently and it was easier to just throw away the 100+lbs. of magazines then to bring them with me. I had a lot of magazines.

I have been reading some opinions of peoples on other sites, but would like yours also.

why mobile s754 when you could go venice?
3000+ venice 939 with a nforce4 sli or a ati express200 mb is a better deal.
venice has no penalty fro 4 sticks of ram, support of sse3 etc.

I'm not sure what I'lle be able to spend right now, things are a bit hectic. I need to have an idea on performance vs. prices on these. That's why I am in need of opinions.

s754 is dead. after nothing new is going to be devloped for it except semprons. dont go for the 3400+

go 3200+/ around 3-7% slower than a 3500+ and overclocks just as well. also makes ocing easier due to a 10x multi versus a 9x multi on the 3000+
motherboard, dfi lanparty ultra nf4ultra with a 3000+(winchester) should get you to 2.6ghz easily. with a 3200+ venice, 2.8 should be good and some reports 3.0 and above being stable.

if you must, go 3000+ and dfi, but if you want slightly better ocs with less strain on your mb, go 3200+. (check for venice cores)
[2.8ghz on even a venice would be very hard because the mb would have to maintain a 300mhz fsb with a 9x multi.]
