Looking to upgrade my LCD

I currently have an old Dell 17" VGA monitor that I am looking to upgrade. I was thinking of getting a 19" DVI. My question is this. Are widescreen LCD's the way to go now?

I want this monitor to last about 3 years before any upgrade is needed. I do game on my rig and I multitask using Photshop and Nero Ultra 7. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
 
i went from a 19in crt to thisits been the best monitor i have ever had, it has a 3yr warr too 🙂
this would be good enuf for photoshop and even gaming as what i do with it.
 
That Hanns is a nice price. Is it really that good?

I think Dell is out of my price range. I need to keep this buy under $300.00.
 
Never heard of the Hanns. In the $300 range, inevitably two widescreen LCDs are mentioned; BenQ FP202W and Viewsonic VX2025.

They are both excellent from what I hear. Widescreengamingforums.com has some great user reviews and pictures if you really want to get down and dirty with it. I almost bought the VX2025, but opted instead for a 23" monster (and spent more than twice as much). Worth it though.
