We just got a asus laptop and would like to upgrade to a faster HDD (internal). From my understanding there is an expansion slot for another HDD in the laptop, but my question is what kind of HDD can I get? Im sure not all HDD will just plug right in, so is there a standard or a certain connection Im looking for? can i get a SSD in there? It came with a 5400prm drive, but we do alot of downloading/web surfing/gaming- would this be a good upgrade?

We have a core 2 duo p8700@ 2.5ghz, nvidia gtx260m, 6gig ddr2 and win7. The model is the g72.

I have the same laptop.

The extra drive bay is a standard 2.5" bay that can hold any SATA 2.5" HDD.

For my configuration I purchased a 60GB SSD for the main drive and put the 500GB drive into the second bay.

There is an issue however, the second bay does not have a drive cage to hold your drive. You can put something in there but it will not be secure. You must purchase the cage from Asus or somewhere online, but they have not been sold for a very long time it seems. I have been looking for weeks.

What I did until I can find a cage was take a cage from a different laptop and modify it to fit in the Asus' drive bay.

I would highly recommend a SSD for this laptop.
