Looking to upgrade my 8800 GTS 512mb (suggestions?)

I'm leaning towards the ATI 4870. I can't believe how cheap it is given the performance in comparison to some of some of Nvidia's offerings (namely the GTX 260).

Really, all I want is something to be able to run Crysis, and some future titles over the year at high/max settings 1680 x 1050 at an average of 30fps.

Is it a good time to upgrade? or will there be a new batch of GPU's just around the corner? The feature set on ATI's line seems really bespoke and fresh, but the question is, will Nvidia retaliate by offering competition sooner rather than later?

Anyway, what do you guy suggest. And will I see much of a performance boost in comparison to my 8800 GTS 512mb?

Both companies just released new GPU's so there probably won't be new ones coming anytime soon unless nVidia changes the G200 to 55nm quickly. I see no reason to wait, as the only known card that is coming out in the next couple of months will be at least $500 (the Radeon 4870X2).

Stuff spending $500 on a card (UK equivalent being £300-£400+).

Anyone know the best price for a 4870 in the UK? Not too fussed about brand as long as it's not Powercolor.

If you were on something like 9600GT or 8800GT, it would make sense. But id say wait for the refreshes around this fall. If you cant, hD4870 should be a nice upgrade.

Well you will see a 50%+ performance increase in games with 4870. Especially in high resolution with AA. So i think its worth it.

Maybe I just missed it in your post but are you looking to upgrade a 512mb GTS or one of the older models?

Powercolor - Not sure why you hate them. Ordered mine and getting it tomorrow.

Sapphire - Best price in stock that I know of.
