Looking to upgrade for Unreal Tournament 2007

Hi im looking to upgrade the system specs in my signature. I have no set budget but I dont want to spend too much.

I was considering just buying a HIS x1900GT and maybe a new 19" gaming monitor, but I understand the rest of my system may hold me back despite a new gfx card, what about sticking one of the newer athlon 64 skt 939 chips in my system seeing as they have dropped in proce now?

the ram I have at the moment is only running at stock cas timings which arent the fastest would that hold me back?

I would also consider the option of upgrading my cpu and motherboard to the new core 2 duo (which i know hardly anything about) and putting some new ram into it which I would also need advice on.

as you have probably gathered im pretty indescisive at the moment, so any help at all would be greatly appreciated 🙂

p.s the reason for my upgrade would be to play the new ut2k7 and the odd bit of css and cod2

wait.

core 2 is bleeding edge, and graphics cards will just get cheaper and faster if you wait.

unless you don't like your current system's performance in cod2 and css it's a waste of money to upgrade now.

put the money in an INGDirect.com account and earn a little interest while you wait.

This is good advice, your machine is definitely upgradeable but you are better off waiting.

Maybe sell off the RAM you have now while it still holds good value and get yourself 2GB.

thanks to both for the quick reply. that does seem like good avice and if I were to upgrade my ram what would you reccommend?

Anything from Corsair, Mushkin, Crucial, or Kingston.

i was thinking of the speed of the ram pc3200 pc400 and so on, am i right in saying you always buy ram that has a 1:1 ratio with your cpu frequency. how important is that 1:1 ratio?

thanks again.
