Hello everyone let me just start off with saying thanks in advance for any input given to me on the dilemma I've reached. I built my current gaming computer in August of 2008, so its going on alittle over 3 years now. I was looking into squeezing some more life out of her before I have to do a full boat upgrade. Its been able to run every game I've played pretty decently of course without DX11 capability which I've been wanting to try out though specialy with my current game titles that support it and any new ones coming out.

With Battlefield 3's recent release and just in general from boot up times, program load times I decided it may be time to look into upgrading and well honestly I just want to spend some money as a birthday gift to myself. I know its a given I need a new GPU for sure I did my best to hold off on the last two series Radeon cards, I was waiting for the new 79xx radeon cards to come out from what I understand is sometime in January of next year. I was also considering maybe picking up a new Processor, either a PHII 970 or a 1100Tx6 chip (according to Asus my motherboard supports both these chips with a bios update). And of course I was also considering picking a SSD as a OS drive. I should also mention I also use the computer for Photo Editing(Photoshop CS5) and video editing(Premier Pro).

Any help/suggestions are appreciated on what would be the best option to go with.

What I have now:
ASUS M3A32-MVP Deluxe AM2+/AM2 AMD 790FX

AMD Phenom 9950 X4 Black Edition Agena 2.6GHz Socket AM2+ 140W Overclocked to 3.0ghz (Yeah I know still rocking a first generation Phenom, which from reading are horrible compared to the Phenom II)

CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) - runs @ 800mhz I have tried to get it to 1066 but for the life me I cant get stable.

PC Power and Cooling S75QB 750W ATX12V

ASUS EAH4870/HTDI/512M Radeon HD 4870 512MB

1TB Western Digital Black HD - Main OS drive

80 Gig Western - Digital secondary Drive

Running a dual monitor setup: (Main)Samsung T220 1650x1050 & Samsung 940b 1280x1024

Thanks,
Orlean

Budget?

That was a good build in 2008. Yep a Phenom 970 would be a great upgrade. If you already know how to overclock a 955BE might be a way to save a couple bucks. I think your mobo supports crossfire and your power supply is fairly beefy so you might be able to pick up another 4870 for cheap. No DX11 though. If that's an issue upgrade to a 6870 and start gaming!
