Looking to upgrade, but should I wait for PCI Express?

I have been waiting for PCIe to come to a motherboard I like so I can look at possibly upgrading to an AMD 64 FX55 Socket 939. Anyone out there here anything as to when PCIe is expected to come to mobo makers Abit, Asus, etc? In addition, would there be any changes to power requirements for a PCIe mobo? AKhandyman

it'll come out this fall for amd. pci-e is not really important yet since it currently performs worse then agp.

To answer the question in your title, it depends on whether you should wait. If you are one of those people who upgrade every 6 months, don't worry about it, but by the looks of your current system , I would say wait for a while and let the PCI Express cards get out into the market and mature a bit. I am waiting until the beginning of 2005 to upgrade so I can hopefully get everything I am looking for: nForce 4, PCI Express, possibly BTX, 90nm A64's. Anyway, you should start seeing some PCI Express support on the AMD side by Q4 of this year. I haven't heard of any power adjustments that are necessary on PCI-E cards, but there may end up being something.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting a board with PCI express just yet. It really won't be mainstream for another six months to a year, IMO.
