I am looking to perform a couple upgrades on my PC. I currently have an AMD Phenom X4 965 @3.4GHZ and I'm looking to upgrade it. I do realize I most likely will need a new motherboard and I am guessing I will also need a new PSU (OCZ 600W)

My Pc will be used for gaming

my budget is $400-$700

I will be buying from Memory Express in Canada

I'd prefer to go Intel but if it has to be AMD so be it

I will be keeping my current Hard Drives (a 1TB and a 2TB, not sure the brands), my Nvidia GTX670, my 4GB of RAM (not sure the brand)

My resolution is 1680x1050

I plan to build in a week or two, I just like to have some ideas in mind before going forward.

Since you already have all major components, a "simple" 3570K + Z77 mainboard will do wonders. Possibly a bump to 8GB RAM. I don't think a PSU change is required.

Two things you might consider are an SSD and a higher resolution monitor. A 670 is kind of wasted at 1680x1050...

This.

A 1080p monitor can be had for under $150. Good long-term investment.

The type is important. It is theoretically possible that you even have DDR2 given the details you've provided. It could also be 1.65V DDR3, which is not good for Ivy Bridge.

Overall though, I think that the i5 3570K + Z77 mobo + 1080p monitor + SSD makes sense given your budget. With new memory thrown in if required.
