My current specs

z68 asus mobo
i5 2500k
16gb ram
two sata3 striped as boot/game
gtx465 se

I have two 8800gtxs in an older quad intel and another with two 7800gtx 512mb cards that seem to run new games just fine on max. The 465se runs just about anything maxed except for shadows usually. I wanted to push this card down to another kids comp with phenom w/ onboard ati and 8gb to make it more suitable for gaming. Are there any similar cards today priced nice that could replace the 465? I figure I can upgrade my card instead of buy some used or cheapo lower end card and always have a backup I can yank from one of the kids comps in case mine goes.

I have a 460se and this 465se which I picked up both for around 100(460se)-160(465) after some rebates back in the day. Is this still possible to stay around a hundred or hundred fifty and get a little upgrade here or am I dreaming? I'm willing to entertain the thought of an ATI card here but my preference is nvidia for my personal system.

The 460 is still in that $100-$150 range right now. To get a significant bump from your card, you're probably looking at a GTX560ti, which runs about $225. That would be a nice upgrade, but won't be revolutionarily faster. Best way might be to SLI your current card.

Get a 7850 or used gtx 480 or radeon 5870

All way too expensive for his purposes (or not worth it).

You can get an HD6870 for under $150, and it's reasonably faster than a gtx465 (~20%) and more efficient too.

This one's $149AR/FS/Code (BRACKET): http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-6870_1G

Hurry up, though, as these will likely be disappearing fast since they kill the new generation of cards in price/performance. You could go for a GTX560, but it's pretty much just a side-grade from what you have, on the order of 10% faster: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121466

Even 20% faster I think is a waste of money....if you have a $150 budget, I'd sit tight for a while.

At $150 you just can't beat a 6870 for price/perf..... however, as Jman stated, you need to decide if 20% improvement is worth the upgrade. For me, 20% is about the lowest amount of increase I would need to upgrade. With that said, try not to laugh at my upgrade history: 4870 > 5870 > 6970 > 7950

Thanks for the info guys. I wasn't noticing any problem with these older dx9 and dx10 parts even playing newer titles. Funny how console ports stagnate the PC it seems and let's you hold off on upgrading. I can wait it out since 10-20% isn't that big of a deal for me atm.
