the HD-497's are great (im listening to it now)

but with $80. my vote HAS to go to the Sony V6. they are close and are better than the 497's in any way you can think of.

Go with the Sennheiser hd-280's... 3 year warranty and all of the parts are replaceable. The Sony Mdr series has comparable sound quality, but the headphones break easier and Sony doesn't offer the kind of coverage that Sennheiser does.

You can often find the Sennheiser headphones for a very good price on Amazon.com

I got my HD-280s for $60 after rebates. If you don't need them right away, it might be a good idea to wait until they're on sale if you decide to get them.

the MDR-V6 are the same as the MDR-7506 except the 7506 uses a gold plated connector (and costs about $20 more), right?
also, V6 is NOT the same as the V600.
