I am going to SLI GTX 980s one way or another. This computer is strictly for gaming. Here is my current build:

i5-3570k
ASRock Z77 Extreme4
GTX 780 ti
FirePower Silencer MK III 750W 80Plus Gold
Crossover 2560x1440 display

Should I just keep my current rig and add the 980s? The big question is, can my PSU handle SLI 980s? If not what brand and wattage would you kind folks suggest. Also, will my CPU/Mobo combo bottleneck the dual 980s at all?

If I were to upgrade across the board I would be going to the X99 platform. If I end up doing this the question is should I just get the i7 5820k or go with the 5930k -- the only real difference being the 28 PCIe lanes compared to 40 lanes. Would the lane difference make any difference at all for only a dual card setup? I don't plan on any other cards (sound, etc.) taking up any PCIe lanes.

Thanks!!

Welcome to the forum :)

Not sure about the quality of the power supply. Think the consensus is a high quality 850w or so would be best.

As far as a full upgrade I'd say try what you already have 1st. Maybe overclock your cpu if you don't already. If performance is acceptable to you then just carry on. If it's lacking then upgrade the rest of the rig.

Maybe a list of the games you play would help as some can be cpu bottlenecked.

I know nothing about that PSU, but assuming its decent, you should be fine. You should even be able to OC.

This is with an OC'd IB-E, and the numbers are at the wall, so the strain on the PSU is actually lower.

I play everything when it comes to games. Currently Dota 2, Wildstar, Wastelands 2 and Divinity but I'll be playing the new Battlefield and The Witcher 3 when it comes out along with some other big games I'm no doubt forgetting. Any recommendations when it comes to what PSU? For a 850W I was just looking at this:

Good choice it looks like to me. Very high quality!

I'm sure others will chime in about the games and if you'll need to upgrade your current platform.
