I have had my CyberPower 850AVR for about 3 or 4 years now, and I want to replace the battery in it. My question is if I can replace it with a "higher capacity" battery for a different UPS.

A battery such as this one http://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-Rep...2063544&sr=1-2

Are the sizes of the batteries the same? Will it fit in the "case"? I am only looking to do this because I can't seem to find a battery replacement for the 850, and the one I linked will have more power, yes?

Edit: I found one to replace my particular model http://www.replaceupsbattery.com/UPS-Batteries/CyberPower-CP850AVRLCD-Battery/ but am still wondering if the battery size is the same

IDK if it will work. I usually just go to my local Batteries+ retail store. In theory if the battery is the same physical size and voltages, with the same connectors in the same locations, it should work. Voltages are a given. Why I say same connectors in the same locations + same physical size is that I've opened up a few battery backups and have seen how short cables are and how tight the battery compartments can be.

Yeah...there is no reason at all to put a different type other than the one I have now. It works, and has for the past few years, I just want to get a replacement for WHEN it fails. Now that I have found the right one, I will just get that :) Thanks for the reply Zap

If it physically fits and is the same voltage (most SLA batteries are), then yeah it will work fine. It'll obviously take longer to charge given the same input current, but that's about it. Now finding a higher capacity replacement that is exactly the same size could be difficult.

There's a thread around here somewhere.

:) Gillbot has the winning idea...

All except for the flooded cell battery option. :colbert:
Buy a deep cycle AGM battery and leave those flooded cell batteries for your car (outside).

I want to point out that many low-end UPS's have cooling systems that are designed around the assumption that their battery load/runtime is limited to what they were specced at. Using a battery with significantly more capacity than stock can cause the UPS to overheat and malfunction.

Check the dimensions carefully because I once had the brilliant idea to replace some 12V 7AH batteries with 8AH versions that were only 2-3mm wider, but the extra width prevented them from fitting in some of the backups.

Going to a much higher capacity battery, something in the range of a car battery (~60AH), may prevent the backup from fully charging it. Also I've been told that AGM and gel batteries have different charging voltage requirements, despite both being lead-acid.

I'm not familiar with that particular UPS but most (though not all) batteries in the 12V 7-9Ah range are physically the same size. Usually the biggest physical difference between them is the connector tab size. Most UPS's take .250" fast-on tabs.

I would worry more about the brand than the capacity. Some brands make very low quality batteries that don't last long in UPS's (such as POWERsonic, UB/Universal Battery) while others hold up much batter (such as PANAsonic, Enersys/Genesis, CSB).

I've added a couple links below to a couple batteries that would probably be good for your UPS, assuming it takes the batteries you linked to. I've bought batteries from this company numerous times and always had good experiences with them. Hope this helps.
