Looking to replace G930s with Xonar DGX soundcard and Beyerdynamic MMX300 headset

Hi Folks...

As exclusively a gamer (and the occasional youtube music video) I'm looking for some opinions about replacing my Logitech G930 headset with the Xonar DGX soundcard and the Beyerdynamic MMX300 headset. While my preference would be to get the Astro A50s because of its wireless ability, I'm really interested in the MMX300s.

Basically, there are some annoying issues with the G930s that make me want to replace them, and while I know it's gimmicky, I prefer the "fullness" that the 7.1 provides versus simply stereo sound, hence the reason for the DGX soundcard.

Lastly, while I know many recommend high end headphones with an attachable mic, my preference is a game headset.

Opinions?

Thanks in advance...

I have the MMX300's. The core sound from the headset will definitely be an upgrade, but the 3D audio may not be. I used the Essence STX a while back and I was surprised at how much it sucked monkey balls in comparison to e.g. the Logi G35 - and that's supposed to be the same Dolby as the Logi, the DGX has an even more inferior solution.

The MMX 300 ships with a USB audio dongle, and personally given the relative (in)effectiveness of both solutions when compared to the Logitech implementation of Dolby, I'd say just get Razer Surround (not sure when they're going to start charging for it, but it can't be that much).

I do have to say I don't use the MMX's that much. I'm not fond of attachable mics either, but for gaming audio I use quality voice-centric condenser mics on an anglepoise stand so that the mic hangs above the monitor.

My usual gaming audio combos are the Electro-Voice RE20 + Sennheiser HD800, or the Blue Mouse + Beyerdynamic T1, run through Creative gaming cards analog-looped through an RME soundcard (for music and to run the mic). My audio setups this way tends to run $5K-plus per PC which may be excessive for some, but you could do it more on the cheap using a basic pro audio soundcard like e.g. a $150 Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and something like a ~$200 Rode NT1-A paired with the budget $100 Rode PSA1 stand - then use Razer Surround for the 3D audio, and pair it with any high quality headphone you want.

I was in the same pickle, I picked up a SoundBlaster Omni and Seinnheiser G4ME ZERO, will unbox and try out tomorrow. SBX surround is the best out overall, and the ZERO is an upgraded PC 350 SE which was pretty good. The Omni is basically a USB soundcard/DAC that has a really good headphone amp.

I thought the 350 was distinctly meh - it really didn't distinguish itself against even the Logi I mentioned above. The MMX 300 will be significantly better but I guess it depends on what you want.
