Looking to replace Antec Tri-Cool in P180 (ASUS P5Q Pro)

It's time to replace the 3 120mm Tri-cools that came with my Antec P180. The front intake and top case fan have a slight rattle every now and then, but when you tap the fan grill it quits... rather annoying.

My question is: What 120mm fans can I get and still have some speed control whether it be from a small switch or from the motherboard headers... I don't want to have to buy a standalone fan controller.

I need to double check my mobo manual to determine how many fan headers I have...

There's three 3-pin case fan headers on that particular motherboard.
Don't know if speedfan will work with speed control for those or not.
Get some basic Yates fans here...$3.20 + shipping.

I read somewhere Yate Loon fans are not good to mount horizontally. Should I look for another fan for the top?

I've not heard of that, but there's fans a'plenty out there if that's the case (no pun intended).
Play with Google & see what you can find out from others. 🙂

Yate Loons are sleeve bearing. In general, sleeve bearings don't like being mounted horizontally. What happens most of the time is shortened life span, so you'll get bearing noise earlier. They're still worth it for the price.

If you want something that comes with fan control, very hard to beat this deal, but it's LED.

Just remember that 16.5 dBA rating is at about 35cfm (I'm just guestimating).

I bought four Yate L's from Petra's Tech Shop for around $16 total, and a Scythe S-FLEX "F" from Newegg for roughly the same price ($16 for just one).

I don't have any fancy testing methodology, but the Yates seem to be quieter, but blow less air. For the price they're hard to beat, though. If I had the cash to blow, I'd probably grab all S-FLEX fans. Those fluid dynamic bearings really are whisper quiet - the only noise that comes from the fan seems to be the air turbulence.

Yate Loon has different factories and the ones from Petra's are the ones you want. Depending on which ones you buy you'll get different ones that don't have much in common with each other in terms of internals.
Take a look at this:

For the price the Yate Loons from Petra's are great. I wouldn't worry too much baout the horizontal mounting, just buy an extra fan in case the bearing starts to get noisy. It's not like they'll completely fail after a few months...
