Hi all,

First of all, a happy 2002 to you all...

Second, the Matrox G400Max sitting in my girlfriends computer has died today. I'm looking for a replacement card since the G400 is out of warrenty (no need to send it in because it will be too expensive to fix it).

I myself have a GF2 Ultra (Hercules) and I'm thinking about popping in the GF2 in my girlfriends computer and get a new card myself. I usually play games like FS2K2 Pro, MS Trainsim, RTCW, Ghost Recon... So far I was very pleased with my GF2, I'm getting 15-24 fps in trainsim, 15-20 in FS2K2 (not much but...) but games like Ghost Recon are a but sluggish.

I'm currently looking for a GF3 Ti500 (Leadtek, Hercules and Creative) and a ATI Radeon 8500. Is it worth to upgrade to a GF3 or a Radeon 8500 while I'm playing games like FS2K2? If I get a +3 or +5 fps more in FS2K2 with a new GF3, I won't be getting a new GF3 but a Matrox G450 instead to replace the dead card in my girlfriends pc.

So, brand isn't that important, it's just that I don't know weither to replace my GF2 Ultra to a new GF3 (TI500 or whatever) or get a new cheaper card to get my girlfriend's comp up and running again.

System specs: AMD TBird 1Ghz, 512 PC133, Asus A7V, Creative Audigy...
System specs (girlfriends pc): PIII-500, 384 PC100, Asus P2B, Creative Live.

One more question, I wasn't too happy with the Hercules' Prophet II 2D quality. Does the Prophet III have better RF-filters?

FS2K2 is mostly processor limited, I have a firned that just bought a GF3 Ti200 and it only gained him 2FPS in FS2K2 over a GF2 Pro.

Slightly better 2D then their GF2 Ultra. But Hercules GF3 is still rater below par in 2D quality IMHO.
I hope your gf doesnt need good 2D, because that GF2 Ultra is going to have a hell of a lot worse 2D then her old G400 Max had.
