Hello everyone,i am looking for some helpful information for a first time laptop/notebook owner looking to swap out a hard drive.

The notebook in question is a hp pavilion dm6 with a core i5 @ 2.5ghz with 4gb of ram and a 750gb 5,400rpm hitachi hard drive.

I found defragging the machine and other stuff like installing programs would make the pc stutter at times, and the whole experience kinda felt slower then i would like and i feel its basically a crime to pack a 5,400rpm hard drive with a core i5 processor even in a mobile laptop/notebook.^_^

Considering a 120gb ssd and while it basically cost more and would outperform any other option, how would a 500gb 7,200rpm seagate momentus perform in the access time and average read department?

Hdtune results for my current drive show a 19ms seek time with 67.5mbps as a average read time, would the momentus drive dramatically improve upon that without sacrificing battery life?It appears most people are pretty happy switching out their 5,400rpm hard drives for a 7,200rpm model, but battery life and cost effectiveness is key for me.

Thanks for any input anyone may have:)

If the notebook ones are anything like the desktop ones, it would be worthwhile, if SSDs are too expensive for your needed capacity. I haven't had the luck to run into a notebook Hitachi lately, but the desktop Hitachis Dell and HP have used lately, even at 7200 RPM, have just been D:.

I'm not sure about battery life, but I have a hard time believing it would hurt it too much, since a backlight and a i5 are not exactly going to be power misers, relative to a HDD.
