The local print shop wants an arm an a leg for glossy business cards. Googling brings up tons of what seems like sweet deals. But I've never heard of any of the companies. If anyone here orders cards could you point me towards where you go? thanks.

also, I'm designing them myself, I'm *not* sure how to go about properly proofing my design. I have a Canon ip4000, since print shops use very high end specality printers, how close would what I output be to what they'll deliver me? Don't want to pay for 2,000 cards and get something that doesn't look like I envisioned it. I read a few tutorials on print proofing but they were very basic and didn't really teach me anything new. A good link would be greatly appericated.

Just out of curiosity, how much do these things normally go for? What would be an average price for 2,000 cards?

If you are looking at doing it online, email them and ask for a few samples.

- Is that a gram ?
- New card.
- What do you think ?
- Whoa-ho. Very nice.
- Look at that.
- Picked them up from the printer's yesterday.
- Good coloring.
- That's bone. And the lettering is something called Silian Rail.

for some reason this thread just reminded me of that conversation.

oh, and i think my firm pays about 300 dollars per 500 cards for the employees. so they can get quite expensive.

Minuteman press? no I didn't, but I'll go look them up right now.

for Joefahey, the more you order you get a better deal, 2,000 glossy run about $140 it looks like.

a pain to research because they're so many factors. some cards are 12pt 15pt looks like the best? and paper weight, christ I'm seeing everything from 80 to 160. I want heaby thick cards thay hold up. Maybe it might be a better idea to go to the print press guy up the street from me and pay more but I can be hands on with him and get exactly the cards I want.

$300 for 500 cards!?! those must be some sweeeeet ass cards, the prices I'm seeing online you could get 10,000 full color UV coated glossy cards for 500 bucks.

for anyone in the known, since every site is saying something different *all trying to sell me their cards* 15pt is the best right? And lb wise, I'm seeing 70 & 80lb but one site had 140lb *maybe a typo* I want really nice card, I don't mind spending extra to get something better.

not $300 for $500 better though ;)

vistaprint has very good prices, but the standard shipping is 21 days! rush shipping makes it too expensive for me. found a place called overnightprints.com they have a 3 day turnaround. and offer 100 15pt (100lb?) glossy UV with rounded corner cards for 12 bucks. I have 1 design I did in 3 different color schemes so ordering 100 of each would be perfect. I'm going ot email them to find out about the paper weight though, I don't know what the hell 15pt means :)

perfect feedback, overnightprints is quite a bit more expensive, but quality is my #1 thing. Also the turn around is much quicker. Placing my order for 100 tonight, if they look good (don't know how my design will look printed) if it's good I'll place a real order.

I wouldn't use Vista if you have an issue with the size of the card. Vista actually prints their cards a millimeter or so small than standard business card size.

I've used overnightprints before. They have good prices, but sometimes I have color issues... they end up being a little off from what I originally planned, while vista doesn't usually have that problem.

Also, if you're a member of vista, they have ridiculous deals on printing. Like I can get 500 cards for 20 some bucks... $4 + $5 upload fee +$15 shipping.

wouldn't smaller be better then bigger? I can't see 1mm smaller making too much of a difference. Maybe I'll order from both and see which look better.

i am not sure of the exact price, but it's something ridiculous like that. i mean i suppose the cards are nice, but i expected something thicker for that price you know? good thing i am not paying for them!

ordered my cards off overnightprint.com Monday @ 3PM, UPS says they will be delivered tomorrow, not bad. Just ordered 100 to test the water, they offer rounded corners too, never seen a business card anything but rectangle. They fvck you on shipping, 10 bucks for UPS ground and the box has to be tiny. Going to order 100 of the same cards from vistaprint.com and see which I like better.

BigJ, I called Minutemanpress they actually have one about 1 mile from my house! but they said the smallest order they do is 500, and it would have cost me 160 bucks! that is too rich for my blood, even if the quality is super uber.
