Ok after you get done installing all the games and antivirus and spyware and codec's cccp and so on the performance of the pc always drops. is there a way to get that performance back a piece of software for windows 7 64bit that will give me factory new performance without having to reinstall windows. something that will help me get my games back to peak performance.

edit. I have all my games and extra software for windows installed on a separte drive then my windows drive

I have the same problem sometimes so I should know. It is all in your head.

If you really want this get a SSD. I have one but still have this problem. Not sure what it is called but ever now and then I get the urge to redo my whole computer just for fun. I don't know why I like doing it I just do. Always make some excuse to do it. Get this I am so picky sometimes I will redo my system more than once a day if something doesn't go exactly right lol. No I don't do that everyday but I must have redone my computer at least over 100 times sense I started learning about this as a hobby. Most likely more than that because that sounds like a very low underestimate for me.

Game's performance depends on free memory and free processor time.
So, you must have at least 4Gb for Windows 7 (3Gb for XP) and you must shutdown your antivirus monitor and proactive protection (BUT NOT firewall) for game_time, some of antiviruses already have a "game mode".
Additionally you can check active services and processes, maybe some of they consumes a lot of memory or processor's resources.

If you're using any full time application that hammers your cpu, it would be better to just uninstall it. Nothing that runs at startup should be using significant resources on a modern system.
