Looking to Hire a Hardware Engineer

I don't know if this is the appropriate forum for this but here goes, ...

I am looking for an experienced engineer to design a bare bones tablet PC-type device for a specific industry application. Candidate should preferably be in the Northeast, USA. Base concept has been determined. I need someone who can determine the optimum hardware components, board layout, CPU selection, etc. to meet cost objectives. Candidate should also be able to determine optimum operating system, sw development environment.

Will pay on a consulting basis or offer options/ownership for long term involvement.

I'd imagine it'll cost tens of thousands to design your own, why not use a custom tablet that already exists? Or at least a company that has exprience in this. Symbol, panasonic, Intermec, HHP, etc.

WannaFly,
The niche or "differentiator" I am seeking requires a specific, low cost, tablet PC type of appliance. The business model requires a low cost device. If I used an existing tablet PC ($1500 - > $2000), the concept would not succeed and it would have alot of stuff I don't need (USB ports, high end CPU, etc...)

At the risk of sounding rude, $2000 per device is going to sound awfully cheap compared to the cost of having even one prototype custom device created for you.

You already mentioned "operating system" and "sw development environment" which immediately suggests you haven't really figured out what you're looking for. A "custom tablet PC" for a niche market would imply a custom OS and firmware to match. That's the only way you'd get a cheap solution.

If you want to go a more affordable handheld route, you'll want to look towards the PDA sector.

flot,

I have been down the path with a couple of development companies and know the costs involved. Yes, the costs are high but, ...

In working with the concept and filing for protection over the last 2 years, I think I have a pretty good idea of what I'm looking for.

The PDA display is too small.

Thanks
