Looking to getting into off camera flash

That is the same softbox I was looking at.

I don't need the rest of that stuff thought because my d90 should be able to control my flash remotely.

Should have bought a Nikon 😛

yeah I got thinking from you post 😉

Isn't the d90's wireless flash the one that uses IR and not RF? Thus the need to have each flash in eye sight of each other?

I already have wireless flash via:
Canon 550EX Mastering my Canon 430EX (IR)

I really don't like wireless I used the IR wireless flash for a shoot and almost killed myself most of how me line up our flashes makes having them in eye sight is not possible

I don't ever plan on buying Nikon, worked a summer with a D3 + d300's + D700
never liked it just didnt suit me, the only camera that felt right in my hand was the D3

plus white lens's looks better

 
To be honest I have not read up much on the d90 and what it can do and how, but I think you are right in that the onboard flash triggers the remote flash.

I'll be getting out the book before I buy anything 🙂

Yeah i think you should because im pretty sure it can, you should use that and not spend the $$$ if you don't have to

That's a common misconception. Line-of-sight is not needed for CLS to work; the IR signal bounces around quite well indoors and the range is decent outdoors, although it works best when the receivers are shaded from direct sunlight.

One way to look at it is Nikon is basically giving every D90 buyer a free Canon ST-E2 (~$225). Sure it's not going to compare to $500 worth of Pocket Wizards, but like any photographic tool, it can produce excellent results if you learn how to use it.

Congrats to Canon for finally including wireless flash capability for free in their 7D. Hopefully it (along with all the other long overdue improvements) will trickle their way down the product line.
 
I'm not a big fan of the pc sync cords... so many tripping hazards. But it is a cheap way into it. RadioPopper JrX and Cybersyncs are some good alernatives for RF. I have the cybersyncs, work great. The ebay Cactus triggers work too, just built very cheap.

I also argue about getting one of the strobist kits, or making one your self w/ a couple of light stands and umbrellas. More for your money I think.

Oh, and Nikon has a couple of white lenses too, heh

BTW I think I actually own some of the OLD Apple logo stickers, the ones with the multicolors and all 🙂

The problem with IR is that I a lot of outdoor shoots and yes it works but its not near 100% and its a pain having to aim the flashes correctly

Im thinking with cords it will be easier

Yeah tripping hazards 🙁 im trying to think of a way to make a mag safe connector for my pc sync cords but these are going to be used in a setting with very little personnel and so no kids/ uncles of the bride ect...

I wasnt able to find cactus triggers on ebay but i did find them on google, i might get a set after but still would like the reliability of the cords

Oh also iv never had any sort of off camera flash where should i start with building my own kit ?

One of these days i need to move back into lightroom 2 heard it kicks apertures ass 🙁 after the 2.0 upgrade


 
Setup looks good to me. If you wanna start out a little cheaper and practice before spending $250 on softboxes, try the 2x Impact Light Stand & Umbrella kit from B&H ($100).
