first of all, contemplating whether to get him a lappy that is xp-m than a p-m cause of the price.

but if i do go w/ an intel based lappy, i was thinking of the 1150, 5150, and 8600... any suggestions or pros/cons between these would be greatly appreciated...

TIA

The 8600 is the best one there, but its also the most expensive. I don't think the 1150 is that great, screen is too small IMO. I guess it boils down to how much do you like you brother? :p

lol...

i like the 8600 cause of the kb-layout. the 5150 is ok too. but i dont know if i should spend an extra amount of money for something my bro wont fully use; that is, in terms of a laptop's option. howerver, how about this... for what he will do (and i dont think he'd move it around a lot in his room) p-m or p4, or pentium vs xp-m? TIA

If he doesn't need ultra portablility an xp-m is definitely the way to go. That'll probably offer you the cheapest and best bang for your buck system. I wouldn't get P4 regardless (most p4 lappies are quite large and get hot) and P-M lappies are great for power and portability but are generally more expensive than xp-m systems.

well... since i'm gonna spend an amount of money on a laptop and would like to have it last 3-5 years w/ minimal upgrades/updates... i thinking of getting the 8600 for my bro

...thanks everyone for the $0.02
