I already have COD 5, world at war, my only game I got when I got my xbox, so I am basing it off of that.

I want it to be a FPS that has an at equal or greater single and multiplayer combined. and yes it can balance out (ie: better single but not as good multiplayer)

COD 4 is not going to be it, anyways the new one is suppose to come out around November according to my friends and I will get it then

so go go recommend. you get + 20 internets if I decide on it

UPDATE!!

so, like 4 of my friends already had GTA 4, and I used to play Unreal Tournament 2003, so I wanted UT3.

I picked up both for a total of 65.

In my opinion, Halo 3 isn't as good as the COD games, but it has one huge advantage depending on your situation - split-screen online multiplayer. That is, you can have up to four people on a single Xbox 360 playing other people online. Call of Duty has either split-screen OR online multiplayer, but not both at once. It's really irritating because the game is perfectly capable of handling lots of people at a time on a single console, but for some reason the two modes are mutually exclusive.

Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 both have great multiplayer, but no single player to speak of.

Resident Evil 5 might fit the bill too, though it's a third-person shooter, not first-person. It has local split-screen co-op and online co-op, but I'm not sure how exactly the game modes break down. I know it has competitive multiplayer modes (that you have to pay for :disgust:), but I don't know if it has split-screen online or if it's like Call of Duty in that it's either one or the other.

skip tf2. not worth it on the xbox.

l4d, halo3, gow2 would be the top choices. other than the cods there is not much more worth playing on xbox.... maybe battlefield im not sure on the player base though. check out the top10 xbl games and see there..

halo3 is prolly your best choice, amazing online and coop single player is pretty good.

Methinks you're shooting yourself in the foot, but to each his own. CoD 4 (IMHO) is lightyears beyond World at War, easily my favorite FPS game on the 360.

But if you want to steer clear from that try Gears of War/Gears of War 2, although I swore off GoW 2 after buying the horribly buggy product that Epic released. As much as everyone (myself included) dogs Halo 3, honestly it's one of the best "bang for the buck" multiplayer games you can buy. It's longevity is proof by the fact that it's been out for a year and a half and it's still the most played multiplayer game on XBL. Stale? Yes. Generic? Yes. Unimaginative? Yes.

But honestly it is a good bit of fun.

Other than that you can try the Rainbow 6 games, RE5, or maybe L4D.

well considering COD4 is the best FPS (multiplayer wise, i don't think the single player was great at all other than 2 levels) and you are knocking it right away, I would have to say Halo 3.

Agreed.

Also, Left 4 Dead is worth a look. Survival Mode is a lot of fun once you get bored with the campaigns.

I'd throw the Gears of War games out there, but they are not First Person Shooters.

While the single player campaign is a bit on the short side I thought it was excellent designed/paced. Of course, playing it on Veteran makes me want to use the Martyrdom perk on myself...

I was never impressed whatsoever with L4D. I played the PC version for all of 10 minutes before getting bored.

the AI in COD is garbage though, and the infinite spawning enemies is just a lame tactic for AI as well. people sniping you from windows miles away with a pistol too is pretty lame.

it's the same AI that was seen in COD2 which was equally lame. i just didn't think there was much exciting about the single player, other than 2 levels, and i'm sure you know which 2 levels I mean.

Ghillies and AC130?

*edit*
While it's not an FPS/TPS whatsoever, Crackdown is $10 shipped at Newegg, if you just want to shoot/blow stuff up it might be worth a look. I ordered a copy yesterday.

TF2 comes with the Orange Box though, so you get HL2, Ep1, Ep2, Portal, and TF2. There's a lot of single player value in that especially considering the Orange Box is only about $20-25.

I bet if you looked around you could find it for $15 or less.

I wouldn't call Fallout 3 an FPS at all. It's an RPG game that just so happens to have shooting from the first person perspective, it's like Oblivion.

Wow I dont know how you guys didnt like the SP for COD4. It wasnt just a game, it was a cinematic experience. It was the first game I felt like I was playing out a sick movie that kept an amazing pace throughout.

The infinitely-spawning enemies sort of ruined it for me. In that game, it's less important to shoot enemies than it is to simply dash forward until you hit a certain point in order to advance your progress and start a new set of scripted events.

I did enjoy it. The so called infinantly spawning enemies didn't hack me off very bad. Although on Veteran they can be very annoying...

That part wasn't too bad, I'm on the level before the flashback on Vet (where I've been for probably 10+ months) and I refuse to play it anymore...

I know you already made your purchase but if you want a great single player FPS on the cheap (seen it used for less than $20) then give Bioshock a look if you haven't played it yet. I traded mine in and have been aching to give it another go myself.
